- Rated 1 out of 5by Tehhutch, 6 months agoRemoved after years of use, My browsing session being interrupted by tabs informing me of updates, then nagging for donations is more annoying than the ads it's supposed to block.. I get that developers need support, but there's better ways of doing this.
"Once per browser per device" every time an "update" is pushed out is a terrible way of doing this and false when I see the tab opened several times in an evening during a browsing session.
ABP could do better, instead I have removed it and moved on to other add-ons as it's not worth the headache or interruptions. There are better, more competitive tools out there these days, that behave better than this... Sorry but you could do better.Developer response
posted 6 months agoHi,
We are updating the extension, therefore a popup might appear (it will only happen once per browser/device), but you can simply close it and continue browsing. If you are seeing many payment tabs all at once or encountering the payment page every time you open your browser, please reach out to us via support@adblockplus.org.
Here's more about how our contribution page works: For non-Premium users, we populate the page when we update the extension to keep you informed on changes we've made and as a reminder to support Adblock Plus if you find the software beneficial. We don't track who has previously paid unless your extension is already upgraded to Adblock Plus Premium (and in that case we won't show you the update page at all). The contribution page also displays just after installing ABP so it sometimes appears even though you have recently contributed or have paid for Premium. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18395091, 6 months agoHow do I know I have ABP? Nothing tells me that it's on my computer anywhere. I paid for this and now I don't have a clue where it is !

Can you please send us a message to support@adblockplus.org with some example URLs where you have been seeing ads, and some screenshot of the ads and of your ABP settings? We would be happy to look into it for you!- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18387682, 6 months agoLike many others I've just deleted Adblock due to the constant, disruptive begging for donations. It's uBlock Origin for me from now on.

Every other day, it goes against its own mission of preventing ads by creating its own. It opens its own tab without permission soliciting for donations. It's super annoying and disruptive. You have ruined your own brand because of your greed. I have removed you from all browsers and devices. Thank you for the short period of time when you were useful when you were doing what you set out to do.

I get multiple pop-open tabs in different windows anytime the extension is updated asking for payment. They update just to show their fund raising page more frequently. They read Bill Gates' "An Open Letter to Hobbyists" and cheered. I am very close to uninstalling it and moving to something else.
Reply: great business model you have; annoy people until they pay you. Must have some proud parents.Developer response
posted 6 months agoHi,
We are indeed currently running a contribution campaign, therefore a contribution popup might appear (it will only happen once per user), but the user can simply close it and continue browsing. Adblock Plus remains a completely free extension and all contributions are 100% voluntary.
If you are seeing the popup constantly, we apologize for the inconvenience. In this case, we would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. - Rated 1 out of 5by Kuahara, 6 months agoIt was awesome a long time ago. Now when I open Firefox and try to type in a URL, I'm constantly interrupted by an "ad block plus was updated" tab that is really just a contribution campaign ad and they "update" ABP every other day for no other reason than constantly flashing this stupid, annoying interruption in my face. ABP is now the #1 culprit in disruptive browser pop ups. I switched to ublock origin and couldn't be happier.

I got the ad every day, until I uninstalled the extension.
Goodbye to an old friend.Developer response

Time to move to uBlock Origin folks, where ALL ads, not just the ones Ad Block Plus hasn't been paid to show you are blocked. There is no good reason why the Admiral bs can't be blocked using Ad Block Plus other than it being by design. So long and thanks for all the fish!

- Rated 1 out of 5by Smoking Pig, 8 months agoEats all available memory when blocking ads from Yahoo, then sucks up swap as well. Also maxes out the CPU so you can't even close tabs. The only remedy is to restart the machine. NOT recommended. Ublock Origin has none of these problems.

Yes, I refer to the Acceptable Ads program, allow me to translate it in a bullshit-free language: ABP make companies pay for the right to bypass (allowed by default ABP extension config) the ads-blocking feature.
In other terms, ABP comes as an extra pay-wall between ads companies and end-users by imposing a new fee for passing "The Acceptable Ads Committee", where the main criteria for "acceptance" is nothing but the dime the advertisers have to pay ABP to let their ads go through. Great, the ads won't be animated, yadi yada, but that's still an ad.
As Rick Sanchez would say, it's just advertisement, with extra steps.Developer response
posted 7 months agoHi,
Thank you for your review.
In this program, websites are permited to show certain ads on the page. However, those ads have to be produced according to a series of criterias (ie. not animated, non-intrusive, cannot block content, etc). Websites have to apply join the program and are judged by a committee. This ensures that all pages follow the criteria established.
Users can chose to opt-out from seeing Acceptable Ads at any time in their ABP settings.
