- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 15186016, 2 years agoThe overall concept and translation experience is great. However, the lack of Japanese supports is a deal-breaker for me since the language is supported in both Safari and Chrome built-in translators.

) . - Rated 2 out of 5by Riri, 2 years agoIs Japanese not an option? Kind of weird the icon for this add-on features Japanese when it's not a translation option.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14908324, 2 years agomouais... Loin du confort d'utilisation de la solution duckduckgo qui elle est illimitée et se gère de façon plus simple (en gros qd t'as plus besoin du mail, tu le supprimes en 2 clics).
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 15163944, 2 years agoI like the idea of local-private translations. Since I discovered this add-on I think I really need it. Now... in the current version translation quality is far away from deepl or even google (checked in en<-->pl). But it isn't important to me as much as easy using of "manual" translation - and now is not comfortable. I have to select text, copy it, click on add-on icon, paste text, press enter in text window, and then I get a translation. Why not just to select the text and click add-on icon, the rest could be done automatically?
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 17650961, 2 years agoJust doesnt hold a candle to extensions like TWP at the moment. Even ignoring the sometimes worse translations or the extension often not recognizing what language is being looked at without refreshing the page, the user experience just feels clunky compared to the competition.
The menu (just like firefoxes ctrl + f findbar) needlessly stretches across the whole screen for no reason. It also doesn't close when you click the addon icon again. I am sure others have named other little annoyances with it. Call it nitpicking but as they say, a death by a thousand cuts. I hope they improve on all of this and will check back in on this extension in the future since ideally I dont want to have to use an extension for something like this in the first place and would love if mozilla perfects this and ultimately adds this natively to FF. - Rated 2 out of 5by Romain, 2 years agoJolie promesse d'un traducteur indépendant de Google mais malheureusement impossible d'ajouter des langues à ne jamais traduire : on doit ajouter site par site et on se tappe le bandeau de demande de traduction à chaque fois. Il manque clairement une section de paramétrage plus avancé !
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 16348317, 2 years agoVery bad UI! The bar cannot be removed. I cannot say "never translate english". The target language is also the UI language. I'd rather have it translate to english than to my native language, because those translations are usually better.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Dominik Adrian Grzywak, 2 years agoNeed an option to hide the translation bar by default, it's annoying.
Developer response
posted 2 years agoHello Dominik, on version 1.2.0 which should be released tomorrow, you will have such option. - Rated 2 out of 5by Sceliphron, 2 years agoНепотріб. Сторінки українською мовою вважає російськими і пропонує перекласти з російської на українську.
- Rated 2 out of 5by mtosques, 3 years agoUsability can be improved.
"Options > Translation Preferences" should show directly the "Exceptions..." window instead of letting you find it. Moreover this Exceptions..." window should let you *add* Languages and Web Sites.
No way to revert the the translated page back to the original language (without refreshing the page). - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 16731381, 3 years agoI am unable to find the English option for translations.
I can see Bulgarian, French, German etc but I cannot find the English one.
Anyone who can? I have taken a screenshot but could not find any place to add it. - Rated 2 out of 5by kilm_svyt, 3 years agoЯ понимаю что расширения новое. Но тем не мнения перевод довольно хромает. Т.е. половина слов переводится крива. Даже яндекс не так плохо переводит. Хотя казалась бы, куда хуже? Но спасибо что хотя бы создали. Ещё панелька бесит. Ну правда, нельзя что-ли как в хроме сделать? Это же будет более удобно. Надеюсь вы нормально поработаете с переводам, и потом переводчик будет включён по умолчанию.
- Rated 2 out of 5by PiemP, 3 years agodoesn't work with chinese language. Sometimes the extension assume the language of the page is english (when is not the case) and doesn't give the option to translate from the page's language to english

(Traduzir e então entrar nesse modo funciona)

The quality of the translation is good (English -> Portuguese), but it could improve, and the extension needs work.
- On mixed language pages, it "translates" the native language as well, leaving it incoherent.
- The translation bar is very obtrusive and does not have a close button after translating and you have to reload the page, which undoes the translation.
- The extension does not save the last used language.
- Translation progress should be a progress bar, not a numeric counter. (What do the numbers mean? Sometimes it seems like it freezes and you don't know if the extension is working).
- The "Preferences" and "Statistics" buttons in the options do nothing.
- Translations aren't available in Reader Mode (Translating and then entering it does) - Rated 2 out of 5by Berend, 3 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by gerick.ri, 3 years agoAbsurdly slow, full of bugs and without basic functions. Considering the time it took them to develop this, it looks like we will have to wait several more years.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Lucas Souza, 3 years agoNão faz tradução de forma automática, deveriam fazer com que a traudção acontecesse sem que uma barra ficasse amostra, mas sim apenas o simbolo do tradutor na barra da URL.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Khaled Khalil, 3 years agoEdit after 2 years of my initial review: still no support for many major languages, after 5 years of development it support only some European languages + Persian (in development). The web is more diverse than that, and Firefox has users all across the globe who use more languages.
For instance Mandarin Chinese is spoken by 1.35 billion, Arabic 710 millions (native+second) and Hindi 610 millions (native+second). Yet these three major languages don't even get any interest from Bergamot team, no promises, nothing at all.
I am sad I'm taking away two stars from my initial review, but I still have hope the situation will change, hopefully in this decade.

I have been waiting project Bergamot since its first news in 2019, and I am excited that it began to fruit in this extension.
I have just tried it with a few pages, and the translation looks very natural, that's a great success.
However, as many has pointed, the languages supported for the moment are very limited. I hope more languages are going to get supported later. - Rated 2 out of 5by 一缕烟花轻, 3 years agoNO Chinese language and not translation when select words keep up
