- Rated 5 out of 5by jonmor, 8 years agoI love this extension. Where I live, weather is very important to me and this little extension keeps me up to date quickly and accurately. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would be would gladly do so. Great job, Tim!
- Rated 4 out of 5by Chuck, 8 years agoForcastFox was always my go-to. It just worked and fit my style. With its demise, followed by hit-and-miss “fixes,” I searched for a replacement weather add-in.
Enter Weather Extension… Specifically Weather Extension Pro.
Weather Extension is an up-and-coming weather add-in that provides a service I need in a way I need it. Its toolbar icon with popup extended forecast information provides me with up-to-date weather for any number of cities I need, an hourly forecast, in-depth weather-related data, and various radar views. It does so via a very modern presentation that flows pretty smoothly once you get the hang of it. For those wondering, weather information is provided by DarkSky.net.
Tim, the Weather Extension creator, is very responsive to user requests for assistance and is actively working to improve the add-in.
Overall, Weather Extension is a very good weather add-in. Here are some things that would make it better:
1. While the weather icon Weather Extension uses changes based on the current weather, the icon set is not very attractive. There is no current way to change the set. How about an option to change the set?
2. The weather icon does not display a current temperature overlay. Tim provided me a specific build that provided the overlay, which is great! Unfortunately, it really overshadows the actual icon, which itself wasn’t ideal in the first place. In addition, there is currently no option to turn the temperature overlay on or off.
3. On mouseover, the user sees a simple tooltip highlighting the current location, actual temperature and real feel temperature. Users like me would prefer to see the actual extended forecast on mouseover instead of the tooltip, or at the very least have an option to do so.
4. The weather is currently updated on a fixed 30-minute schedule. Some users might prefer a different schedule.
5. The extended forecast popup as presented is pretty straightforward. It has a Windows 10 feel to it. The current location is listed at the top. Unfortunately, although users can add other locations, they can’t currently delete the default location. Unless you’re interested in the default location, it’s a waste.
6. As stated, users may add multiple locations in the pro version. Unfortunately, there is no current way to automatically cycle through each location on a timed basis.
7. The weather icons, again, are not to my taste given their Windows 10-like style. Unfortunately, users do not have an option to choose another set. Pro users can see an animated set, but it’s the same design style as the fixed.
8. If using the NoScript add-in, the radar will not work unless you allow the DarkSky.net website. This may be an issue for some. I've used other weather add-ins that did not require the user to allow another website.
On a personal note, I did have problems with the extended forecast popup often freezing Firefox, forcing me to have to use Task Manager to close Firefox, then restart the program. I tried the add-in with all other add-ins disabled, yet still had the issue. Tim helped narrow it down to a specific Firefox setting. While the problem is mostly resolved, it does still occur on rare occasions.
That said, I expect Tim will continue to improve Weather Extension, hopefully incorporating some of the suggestions above. In addition, I suggest he look at the competition and how it presents the weather. Some competitors present some elements in a better way (for me at least).
In the meantime, Weather Extension is well worth your consideration!Developer response

4 years later and this is the best weather browser add on I've used. Tim cares about providing the service. It even knows where Ardee is. - Rated 5 out of 5by Mike , 8 years agoI was disappointed when ForecastFox fix edition stopped working correctly and a working version was not in sight, but now that a friend pointed out this extension, I'm a happy camper again.
Other reviews seem to complain about features missing or not working correctly, but the version I'm using seems to have everything working correctly, with the desired features present. And one complaint reads as if the writer can't tell the difference between ForecastFox and Weather-extension - two different critters!
No, the display isn't the same as ForecastFox - thank Mozilla for "improving" Firefox and breaking that - but it works smoothly and gives me plenty of information to meet my needs.

posted 8 years agoGlad you like it!. What features are you missing from Forecast Fox? - Rated 5 out of 5by NYKim, 8 years agoI have been looking for a reliable Weather extension. This one fit the bill. Thank you for the upgrade to Pro! I'd love to see the ability to move it to the status bar and show an extended several days of weather.
- Rated 1 out of 5by MsKitti, 8 years agoAll of us here in the office prefer the older version where the 7 day forecast was easily seen as soon as you started your browser and was located in the status bar. Didn't take up too much room and was perfect. Now, we don't care for it and have uninstalled. It is a shame people have to change everything when it was great already. They think they make it better, but don't.
- Rated 4 out of 5by ritchie58, 8 years agoAfter ForecastFox became incompatible with the newest versions of FF I decided to give this extension a try. Glad to have a quick access weather app again! I did run into an issue where the radar maps were not displaying for my area but Tim, the developer, was very quick to rectify the issue (thanks again Tim!). I would like to see an animated (Gif) radar image added perhaps in a future build. That would be really cool!
- Rated 5 out of 5by navic99, 8 years agoVery good extension. Simple to use. I would love to see it on the status bar so I could check the 5 day forecast at a glance without having to click the icon.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13042640, 8 years agoFor years I have had my weather on my addon/status bar at the bottom of my browser windows. Regrettably, Forecastfox is no longer supported. I see that your addon seemed to have good reviews. I wanted to get one that would be like my last three weather addons, and be on my addon/status bar at the bottom of my screen. I like the ability to see the forecast at a glance. I noticed that this one was in the toolbar, and was hoping to move it down to the addon/status bar, but instead I accidentally took it off of my toolbar and now can't get it back. Having on the toolbar makes it very difficult to even see the icon. It is way too small, and I can't just glance at my screen and see the weather for the next several days. Please Help!

posted 8 years agoHave you tried right clicking on your toolbar and choosing customize? Look for the weather icon. Also make sure you don't have the 'Light Badge' option turned on unless you have a dark theme. Please email me at weatherextension@gmail.com and I'll help you more. Thanks! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 11228902, 8 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Lizzie99, 8 years agoI have this on several browsers. Easy-to-use and simple, and consistently works on Firefox and Chrome, even at work where others don't. Just wish there was a universal license so I hadn't had to buy Pro a couple of times.

Currently I'm offering free upgrades timleland.com/free-weather-pro-upgrade - Rated 5 out of 5by Gary Bruce, 8 years agoI installed the app, then went and fiddled with the settings and clicked everything on. Well there is a switch that lightens the button. After a futile attempt the figure it out, I emailed Tim, and within 10 minutes Tim email back with the fix for my screw up. Thanks Again, Tim
