- Rated 4 out of 5by kzs, 6 days agoMuch faster than Dark Reader—the difference in performance is unreal. Dark Reader was really slowing down browser performance by about 70%. However, some features are somewhat broken, and it lacks some features found in Dark Reader. Website exclusion doesn't work on IP:port websites, and sometimes I get a broken half-dark, half-light theme that requires disabling and re-enabling UltimaDark, then refreshing the page to fix it. Additionally, you can't disable it on all websites by default and just enable manually on light websites like you can with Dark Reader

Other than that it works great.Developer response

A major user interface overhaul is coming soon! In the meantime, the current UI already allows you to exclude sites from being darkened. If you don’t see the extension’s button pinned in your toolbar, it might still be hidden under the puzzle piece (🧩) menu, where newly installed extensions are grouped - Rated 5 out of 5by Uriy, 10 days ago

posted 11 days agoThe Android version of UltimaDark is available primarily to satisfy a few users, but it is not actively tested. However, since it is identical to the browser version, it inherits bug fixes and new features automatically. While we’re happy to hear that some users have it working, please remember that UltimaDark remains a highly niche and experimental project, so your experience may vary.
That said, detection of the system night mode on desktop is already planned. If Android Firefox shares dark theme information with web extensions as Firefox Desktop does—which is very probably the case—then the Android version should inherit this functionality once implemented, with a bit of luck.
Thanks for your understanding and support! - Rated 4 out of 5by Cooper, 25 days agoI thought I would never use dark mode on browsers due to their performance hit. Then I found this.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 10031114, 2 months agoDark reader:
This add-on needs to:
Access browser tabs
Access your data for all websites
UltimaDark:
This add-on needs to:
Clear recent browsing history, cookies, and related data
Access browser tabs
Store unlimited amount of client-side data
Access browser activity during navigation
Access your data for all websites
Indeed fast :) but a lot of permissions needed
works well on telegraaf.nl , better then dark reader.Developer response
posted 2 months agoEach permission in UltimaDark is added only when absolutely necessary and is used in the most minimal way possible. Browsing history and cookies remains untouched. Clearing the cache is done on key moments (such as updating settings ) specifically to prevent loading unedited resources, ensuring consistent dark mode application across websites.
While UltimaDark might perform better than other tools, such as Dark Reader, on certain websites (e.g., telegraaf.nl), it’s worth noting that Dark Reader is developed by a team of over 40 developers and more than 1300 contributors, whereas UltimaDark is free and still the result of a solo effort. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18678457, 2 months ago

- Rated 4 out of 5by shadows552, 2 months agoFast performance and pretty universal darkening. However, some elements may be incorrectly darkened or look funky (for example, one note writing on web). Also, excluding websites doesn't seem to work (or at least work consistently).

The extension is still experimental and constantly evolving. To report bugs, share ideas, or track progress, the project’s GitHub page is available. Anyone who wants to be part of the growing community around this project is warmly welcome. Thank you for your patience and support! - Rated 3 out of 5by VOIIIXI, 2 months agoBetter performance than Dark Reader but not as good. Lots of pages incorrectly darkened, images too, Google search is the biggest example. It definitely needs more work.

posted 2 months agoThank you for your report ! UltimaDark does not aim to compare itself to Dark Reader or any other tool. Please keep in mind that UltimaDark is a young, free project, and by nature, it will never be “finished.” Bugs are inevitable since fixing an issue for one site may break functionality for others, especially with only one developer working on it.

Thankfully there is this addon as a repacement. Dark mode quality of UltimaDark is certainly sufficient and websites load fast with it. So glad I found it. Especially since the rest of dark mode addons seem abandoned. So thank you so very much ThomazPom for this great addon.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Mushrooms, 3 months agoNoticeably fast easily the Best Performance for a Dark Mode Add-on, it's definitely experimental and requires difficult development, I'm using Fennec on Android and I'm encountering a bad visual bug if attempting to reusing the search bar on brave if java script isn't disabled. Other then a few websites most other visual bugs are minor and this add-on is very usable even on it current version, of course further development is much appreciated, Thank you ThomazPom!!
- Rated 5 out of 5by Gasmasko, 3 months agoI thought it was better than Dark Reader, but after the latest update it's giving errors on some pages like Facebook or Instagram when the page reloads after logging in.
Edit: I edited my review because the extension has good support and attention from the developer.Developer response
posted 3 months agoThank you for bringing this to our attention. The issue affecting these sites was caused by an update aimed at enhancing the support for more websites. It was an unintended mistake, not a fundamental bug. We’re addressing it, and a fix has been released in version 1.6.6. If you encounter any further issues, please report them here: https://github.com/ThomazPom/Moz-Ext-UltimaDark/issues - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18361958, 3 months ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Nixe, 4 months agoI love this addon but it would be great if there were more customization options. A few websites that I use do not work completely with the addon turned on. Ofc excluding these websites from loading the addon works but I think that it could be improved so the whole website wouldn't suddenly turn black. <3
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18294836, 4 months agoI just change my star rating to 5. The latest update really good, it fixes a issue that a lot of sites become dark and unusable✨

Everything is working as expect. But there is a bug in some sites changing all text to unreadable letter.
I think HTML filtering is the cause.
