Reviews for A Fine Start - minimal new tab page
A Fine Start - minimal new tab page by Blake Watson

by Alexander A., a year agoGreat add-on! Very ergonomic, slick and elegant.
One tiny complaint, though: in my opinion, the tab icon is too bright and eye-catching (with a dark theme, that is). A barely visible transparent gray square with a fully transparent "A" in it would've fit an "empty tab" much better. Something like that would probably work nicely with any browser theme as well.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Draewyn, a year agoGreat extension, I love the minimalist design. I wanted something cleaner than start.me and I found it here. Also, it would be awesome to have an option for toggling on/off the favicons of the websites we put in our page.

posted 2 years agoHey I’m sorry this happened. It shouldn’t happen but it may be possible that the browser clears the extension's memory under certain circumstances. If you do decide to use it again, one preventative measure is to save an export. https://afinestart.me/help#import-export - Rated 5 out of 5by theSdev, 2 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14579952, 3 years agoSuperb. Works as intended, I love its minimalism.
It would be nice to have the ability to change colour schemes like some classic gruvbox, dracula, solarized, nord, etc.
And maybe a bit more spacing between the categories' titles and the bookmarks?Developer response
posted 3 years agoThanks for the review and the feedback! I'll definitely consider more appearance options. - Rated 5 out of 5by usalapure, 3 years agoit was perfect, clean and functional. Unfortunately today it doesnt work anymore.reinstalled boththe extension and FFox without luck.
- Rated 5 out of 5by krsagar, 4 years agoVery straightforward and neat page. It would be awesome if the add and reorder buttons appear in settings or upon hover. Keep up the good work!!

posted 4 years agoThat’s a good idea. It would make the design more minimal. I'll consider that in a future version. - Rated 5 out of 5by 198, 4 years agoI usually do not write reviews, but this add-on is so so good. Thanks for this add-on!

- Rated 5 out of 5by Tony, 4 years agoUpdate: The developer responded to my original review and addressed the issues I had with the extension and I have changed my rating to 5/5 because now there is really nothing wrong with it.
Original review: Nice that it has plain text links instead of thumbnails like most alternatives. The interface is simple and easy to use, but there seems to be no way to delete a group or change its name after creating it. Pretty much a deal killer as you will inevitably end up with empty groups with no way to get rid of them. Website has no documentation covering this and developer website has no way to contact.Developer response
posted 4 years agoHey, thanks for the review. When you edit a link there is an option to rename the group. A group is automatically deleted once you delete the last link in the group.
My contact info is on the Privacy Policy page, which in hindsight was not the smartest move on my part. I’ll be sure to add it to the Help page as well. My email is blake@afinestart.me. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or issues. - Rated 4 out of 5by kch, 5 years agoLove how simple and functional this is.
I tried setting it to home page as well (by using moz-extension://8e7f5414-cebd-884f-af49-f8c0b264770a/bookmarks/index.html as the Help page suggests) but it does not work. It only loads a blank black page.
Edit: Okay I solved it. I opened an A Fine Start tab page > right click > Inspect Element > Storage > Under Cookies there is a new moz-extension ID. I replaced this ID with the path above and now it loads the home page with A Fine Start when I start a new window.
I wish Firefox could simple let people set their home page as a new tab page easily as on Chrome. - Rated 5 out of 5by SenatorIvy, 5 years agoGot tired of having big thumbnails with my other extensions so I looked high and low for something that would just let me group text links cleanly. This certainly does that. Very little to complain about. Maybe some small things like padding between groups, or the ability to include the favicon in front of the list item. Small stuff like that.
Looks clean, doesn't seem to have any shady things going on in it, and appears to be just a set of links, instead of some 3rd party remote call links like a lot of other extensions like this seem to do. - Rated 5 out of 5by Websitemachine, 5 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13790801, 5 years agoNice and simple! The design is awesome besides the copyright, help and private policy links. Would look 10x better if they would hover just above the bottom end. Breaks the beautiful white space.
EDIT: That would be awesome, thank you! :)
By the way, I noticed bookmarks without https:// in front of the link won't work (for example 'www.google.com' or 'google.com' won't work). Took me some time to figure it out so maybe you want to mention this in the description or maybe let a little warning show when you try to save a bookmark that doesn't start with https://Developer response
posted 5 years agoThanks for the feedback! I’ll work on getting that copyright line out of the way.
