A Natural Valentine by CollieSmile

One look at the repeat patterning on these two Valentines Personas, and you might wonder what IS natural about this design! Well, the Petunias are, and the hearts almost are! I took one of my photographs, and studied it. There were red leaves in it that made me think of heart shapes. I used an outlined Heart Brush to enhance the shape, but the basic heart shape was already in the leaf. The red in the heart(s) is made entirely from the actual leaves in my photo. I darkened the red leaves around it for better contrast. That didn't do the job entirely. I ended up cutting out my leafy heart, and brightening it up a bit. I then put my photo end on end to get the repeat patterning. I liked the way the bottom of my Persona came out. So I switched the two halves and filled in the leafy green areas, for the 2nd design. Making these was a great learning experience for me.
