- Rated 1 out of 5by Mike, 2 months agoThis Add on does not work as advertised. It has locked me out of my bookmarks on 3 separate occasions. Had to start from scratch each time. Should be removed as an add on.

- Rated 5 out of 5by ff@n , 2 years agoNice addon. I have a few bookmarks of news sites, in a separate folder. These are very distracting. Eventhough, there are in a separate folder, the temptation to open them is always there (lack of self control on my part). Thanks to this addon, these sites do not even show up in the address bar (I know that it is so easy to bypass by simply typing the entire url as needed). Thank you very much for creating this addon.

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14016458, 2 years agoWorks like a charm until today when it deleted all of the content of my folders that I locked. I tried to unlock but it said it already was unlocked so then I locked and unlocked it but all my saved bookmarks are now gone. It worked seamlessly until today and now I am devastated!
Edit: I was able to restore some but far from all my locked bookmarks because it is possible to revert to an automatically saved state of all bookmarks but of course only all visable (unlocked) bookmarks are able to be reverted to. If I want to revert to an even older version to hope that that save includes an open folder which was locked in a more recent save, I will lose some other bookmarks that were added in between those dates. So it is theorietically possible to recover all bookmarks, assuming an autosave of them exist when that folder was unlocked, which is unlikely to be the case. The pressing issue would be to recover all bookmarks from different saves without losing added ones from more recent saves.
TL;DR the program works as intended except it somehow deleted the hidden bookmarks today rather than just hide them.Developer response
posted 2 years agoHello.
I'm really sorry to hear this.
The extension cannot delete the stored bookmarks, it's impossible because there isn't a command that does that, so I'm 100% sure it's not possible.
Something like this can happen only if you uninstall the extension when the bookmarks are locked or if something wrong happens to Firefox and the extension's database is somehow cleared. Maybe an update or something. Of course this is not under my control and there is no way to recover them if this happens.
The only solution is to backup your Firefox profile every once in a while, it contains also the extensions and their databases, which means that if the database is cleared for some reason, you can load the old backup and you should find all the bookmarks (if they were locked, you'll find them still locked and I recommend that you leave them locked so that they won't be accessible in the backup). I've just tried this and it worked.
You can see the location of the profile by writing this in the address bar: about:profiles
Once you are there, you'll see the profile that is being used and you can backup the content of both the root and the local directory (B).
If this happens again, and I hope it doesn't, you can replace the content of the current profile (A) with the content of the old backup (B). Of course don't delete the current profile (A) but save it somewhere. After the change you'll be able to unlock the old bookmarks and export them. Once you have exported all the bookmarks, you can reload the current profile (A) by replacing the backup (B), import the bookmarks and lock them.
I know this is a little annoying but it's the only way to make sure you don't lose all the bookmarks.
Again, I'm sorry for what happened but I can tell you for certain it wasn't caused by the extension itself.
I hope that you can recover as many bookmarks as you can and by following the instructions above you should be able to prevent this. - Rated 5 out of 5by Andreas, 3 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by jak22, 4 years agoThis add-on doesn't work. Says the folders are locked, but can still see all my bookmarks and never asks for a password. It also let me remove the add-on without a password. No security here.

Have a nice day - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 15616729, 5 years agoNice Extension, but...
This has the potential to become better than (recommended) Private Bookmarks. Locked files load much faster, which should be the goal with all hidden files extensions.
As creator stated - timer is deactivated if locked file is unlocked with timer activated, and browser closed. This leaves those files unlocked. Would like to see this extension auto lock open files when browser closed with timer(s) activated on unlocked file folders. Possible to rewrite timer to allow for this option?
Why no initial "Master" password setup?
1) Anyone can lock your unlocked bookmarks file folders by right clicking on any file folder and locking them on you with their own password - (better have a hidden bookmark backup file handy)...
2) Anyone can also click on Firefox "Tools, Add-ons" and remove Bookmark Folders Locker extension. Locked folders can't be unlocked until you figure out what has happened, and reinstall the extension. Would be a nice feature to have the initial Master password required to remove extension.
Hope this review helps with future development. - Rated 5 out of 5by zbijus, 5 years agoIt wokrs fine, but without subfolders :(
Edit: The author is clearly aware of this lack and working on it, so I have to give 4 stars :)
Edit2: Subfolders are included know - good job! Thanks!Developer response
posted 5 years agoThe extension has just been updated and now it locks the subfolders too.
Thank you very much for your review and for using my extension. If you have suggestions for future updates or any question, let me know by email.
