- Rated 5 out of 5by Zeeshan Ali Qureshi, 6 years agoThnx for making this. I was looking for this kind of extension now found one. And can you please option to hide the sidebar while refreshing icons and load sites in background if possible. That would be awesome.
- Rated 1 out of 5by mimteatr, 6 years agoIt hangs (freezes) the browser at a certain percentage, tried 3 times and every time I had to end firefox task
through Task Manager, uninstalling it!Developer response
posted 6 years agoHi, if it freezes the browser at a certain percentage it might be possible that a certain site causes the crash. Maybe you could provide the content of the browser console (ctrl+shift+j or cmd+shift+j) before the crash or inspect the bookmark where it crashes. Chances are high that the browser crashes without the addon. - Rated 5 out of 5by Estellio, 6 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by PanskiKow, 7 years agoThe best addon for favicon's i have seen in 2 years! Checkmarks found a large amount of favicons on a fresh reload of bookmarks upgrading my pc. The resource used is really nothing with an updated pc and shouldn't be any problem for what it does. Thank you!

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13940090, 7 years agoGreat workaround to reload favicons - and by the way a check of run out bookmarks. PLEASE IMPROVE: It is not possible to pause the process, once started. And if the computer goes into sleep mode, it starts on the beginning again. If you have 5000 bookmarks, this is rally annoying. The same with the results. You have to correct (p. x. 800) falied links in a row without getting a cuppa of coffee, cause when the computer shuts down, you loose all results. PLEASE create some kind of memory for results and work in progress. THANKS
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12623088, 7 years agoPros:
- It does what it says.
Cons:
- It does it very inefficiently.
- The extension would be much better if it didn't actually open new tabs, but reloaded favicons in the background. This uses a lot of resources, and bandwidth, and I can't even browse at the same time. If I run it while watching Twitch or Youtube, it will interrupt the video. That's a deal breaker for me.
This kind of extension should be able to run in the background without draining the browser. I would NEVER let this extension reload my entire bookmark collection because it would take long time, and it would also cripple the browser.
I wanted to use it for individual folders, but even that's a hassle because it requires manually typing in the folder path, and it doesn't even explain the syntax, and is shows no examples. I had to try several times until success because the syntax is not obvious to me. (I've seen all kinds of different syntaxes for the Firefox bookmark paths so its not obvious.) So, instead of doing all that, it's actually faster to just right click on the folder and do "Open All in Tabs" instead of using this extension.
Sorry, but this extension is not really a favicon loader. It's basically a bookmark opener. I can already open my bookmarks much faster by selecting "Open All" on each folder, so at this point this extension doesn't offer a better way of doing it.
I will gladly try it again, if it becomes more efficient and easier to use.
UPDATE
- In response to the author
True, it can reload all bookmarks in the browser, which cannot be done otherwise in a single turn. That can be useful, if one is willing to leave the browser run unattended for a long time. I don't know if I would ever do that with over 10k bookmarks, but I guess it's nice to have.
I will bump the rating because I judged it a little unfairly at first. I tried this extension with the expectation that it's a favicon loader specifically, which it is not, and in all fairness it never claimed to be. I had the wrong expectation, so that's my fault. This extension does exactly what it says - it automates loading of bookmarks.
"I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. "
Well, this actually sounds like what I really was looking for. It is too bad that you don't have the time to do it. Hopefully someone will.Developer response
posted 7 years agoHi, I can only repeat that this is a workaround as the webextensions api doesn’t support the direct manipulation of favicons. That’s why extension like FavIcon Reloader don’t work in 57+. For single folders “Open all in tabs” is the official recommendation for reloading favicons. My extensions just automates this for all folders - which can be a lot. I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. Besides that I also check if a bookmark is still valid... - Rated 5 out of 5by Ellen, 7 years agoI like this extension, thanks a lot! I first deleted the file favicons.sqlite and then ran it. Once it was completed I did a first clean-up, which was needed, since there are bookmarks there, which I didn't use probably for 10 years.
I noticed however that not all Favicons are loaded, while the same ones do show in Google Chrome, how come??
However it might be handy to write a little instruction how to run this add-on, since it took me a while to figure it out and thanks to reading the reviews I was sent in the right direction where to look.
Update:
I found the sidebar back in my customize menu, where I must have put it a few months ago when I first used it. I just didn't recognize it as this app, since it was called "sidebar" :) - Rated 5 out of 5by radicalPolio, 7 years agoLoads a set (customizable) amount of tabs in order to load their Favicon and check if the site is still connectable. Does absolutely everything I needed from this sort of addon, highly recommended.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Matheus Muriel, 7 years agoÓtimo, estava procurando igual louco uma extensão que fizesse isto.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Micha, 7 years agoA great Addon that is FF>=57 compatible.
I love the check and the favicon reload.
A useful addon would be the possibility to check only a subfolder, not all bookmarks (there could be many!)Developer response
posted 7 years agoHi, thanks for the feedback. I have added an option to check/include only defined folders in the latest release. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13262784, 7 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Balázs, 7 years agoExcellent favikon (bookmarks icon) refreshing, for example after fresh Firefox installation.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13664579, 7 years agoRenewed all my favicons excepts the one I wanted changing. Functionality is way too limited. Also, coul't find any instructions. Took me a while to figure out what to do with it.

posted 7 years agoHi, the webextensions api doesn’t support the direct manipulation of favicons. Sometimes corrupt/outdated favicons persist... You can delete favicons.sqlite in your profile folder and run the extension again. The location depends on your operating system: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Navigating_to_the_profile_folder
If you click the question mark next to the play button you will find some explanations. - Rated 5 out of 5by Reisp, 7 years agoExcellent favicon reloader (oh yeah, and bookmark checker!) for ff 57+. However I can install it but not run it on 52ESR. Is it compatible with 52? Thx

posted 7 years agoHi, the extension uses the new webextensions api which will eventually completely replace legacy extension. Unfortunately it doesn’t work on versions before 57, when webextensions were introduced. - Rated 1 out of 5by psydex, 7 years agoVery handy but unfortunately it didn't fix my wrong favicons. Maybe if you add option to delete the firefox file that stores the favicons and let firefox create a new one - it would work perfect
