posted 6 years agoThanks for your positive feedback. I've updated the rule file. Now your facebook urls will be cleaned. There are existing a chrome version of this addon, but not officially on the chrome webstore. Please read on this article why: https://gitlab.com/KevinRoebert/ClearUrls/issues/86
The chrome version is available here for manually installation: https://gitlab.com/KevinRoebert/ClearUrls/tags?utf8=%E2%9C%93&search=_cv - Rated 4 out of 5by glibglob, 6 years agothis addon breaks the drop down on google search pages for me

Can you please describe your problem in more details. The best way to do this is to write me an email to clearurls_1@kevinroebert.de and add the Log to the email.
Edit: I've fix the bug. Please visit our issue page for more informations (https://gitlab.com/KevinRoebert/ClearUrls/issues/99) - Rated 4 out of 5by rosekitsune1, 6 years agoI use Firefox Nightly 62 64 bit on my Windows 10 April 2018 laptop. And I can't get CleanUrl 1.2.2.8 to work in privacy browsing. The icon shows up but... in the drop down menu I try to flip a switch on it flips but as soon as I... close the drop down menu the switch flips off and it does this every time, Also all the text below the name and version does not show up at all. And the Oops something went wrong button! shows up And this only happens when I'm in privacy browsing in non privacy browsing CleanUrl 1.2.2.8 works just fine. Thank you

Unfortunately, this is a well-known bug of the WebExtensions API that we have no control over. We would have to rewrite the entire addon, so that the pop-up window is also displayed in private mode. But the addon still filter in private mode the URLs correctly, it just can not be displayed. Please also see the official Bugreport from Mozilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1329304
This "bug" annoys a lot of developers of addons, because it is an unnecessary limitation of Mozilla, which makes it very difficult for the developers to develop their addons. We may eventually rewrite the addon and try to work around that limitation. But that means very much work for us, for which we first have to find time.
EDIT: ClearURLs works in version 1.5a also in the private mode (Incognito). - Rated 5 out of 5by ffjunky, 7 years agoI like the addon. It looks good, it does what it should. What more do you want?

- Rated 5 out of 5by Ed , 7 years agoKevin, I have run into another issue with ClearURLs. It seems to block the map on the left side of the property search result on zillow.com. This occurs when looking at a saved map search or a new map search. Could you please check this?
Maybe you could consider a way to allow the user to whitelist certain sites when issues like this crop up.Developer response

Thanks for reporting and your positive feedback. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 11640498, 7 years agoClearURLs is a must!
Why this and not other similar add-on?
Most of the other adds-on have around 13 rules to remove garbage fields. But ClearURLs has 65 rules to remove garbage fields and much of them are regex-rules (so the rule does not only block one field, it blocks all fields with the same structure). Also, ClearURLs is a open source.
If you are a kind of average user looking to improve privacy without loosing a decade studying a PhD in tech details... ClearURLs is the most complete ready-to-use plug-and-play alternative.
I would like to suggest future requests to the author:
1) To test the system performance impact of the 65 rules. I don't have know-how to distinguish if the 65 rules are indispensable. If "yes", then keep all and add more rules! But if some of them are exceptional and affects system resources/performance, then it could be interesting to prioritize system performance.
2) To evolve ClearURLs in an all-in-one add-on for URLs nasty issues ("clearing", "redirecting", "skipping" etc).
I perfectly understand the author' point of view, in the sense that some requests demand tons of work, not just for build the add-on, but also for keep it updated, supported etc. But from the user' point of view, less adds-on, less system resources, better performance etc... is always more than welcome and most desirable.
I will be more than happy to help donating for this kind of all-in-one add-on.
Congrats and thank you to the author!Developer response
posted 7 years agoThanks for your positive feedback, I am glad to hear that you like and hype the addon. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 6349131, 7 years agogreat addon, works as intented but my only issue is it messes up with google's localization. normally when you go to google.com; it redirects you to your country's local google page and if you still want to use google.com you click "use google.com instead" on bottom right corner and go to google.com but this does not work with this add on. it stays stuck in local google. hope this gets fixed. otherwise great addon.

Edit: I finally found the cause for the bug. I am so sorry that it took so long. Please visit our issue page for more information (https://gitlab.com/KevinRoebert/ClearUrls/issues/99) - Rated 3 out of 5by Wok, 7 years agoPlease keep the addon focused on what its name suggests: clearing URL.
If I want to block doubleclick, I can use another addon. Keep it simple and focused!Developer response
posted 7 years agoThanks for your feedback.
Since the first version of this add-on, we also block tracking domains like doubleclick.net. Rules for these sites are not rational, because the entire page is a tracking "field".
This is the reason why we do not and will never delete complete domain blocking for tracking domains like doubleclick.net.
We also describe this feature since the first version in the description of the add-on, so every knows, what the add-on does. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 11872172, 7 years agoThis one seems to have the greatest coverage though I am concerned of the performance penalty to use so much regex as opposed to a hardcoded list of url parameters- esp. on Android

posted 7 years agoThank you for your positive feedback.
Edit: Since your review, I have made many performance optimizations on ClearURLs, especially for Android.
Can you reassess how ClearURLs is now behaving on your device? - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13262486, 7 years agoThanks, great addon hope it is kept updated to keep with growing number of nasty tracking URLs on the web! GUI is also really nice compared to other webextension addons I have seen. By the way, can you say what the
"Monitor extension usage and manage themes" permission is for?Developer response
posted 7 years agoThank you for your positive feedback. We use the permissions for the statistic in the addon settings. Only you can view your own statistic. The statistic is always offline on your pc.
Edit: You can also view and check our source code on https://github.com/KevinRoebert/ClearUrls, the addon is open-source. - Rated 5 out of 5by HardKoreG, 7 years agoGreat add-on. Could you add an option to remove the numbers that show up on the toolbar icon?
Developer response
posted 7 years agoThank you for your positive feedback. We will add this option to the next version.
Edit: We've add this option into the new version 1.1.1.4. After the review by mozilla, the new version is available. Please have patience a few more days.
