- Rated 2 out of 5by Dexms4, 4 years agoHas been broken for close to a month. Besides that, there were some major flaws in the design - the addon would not display untranslated text properly, instead displaying a loading symbol for a google translate page that would never load (because apparently you need to be a paying user to get simple google translate functionality).

posted 4 years agoThe Google Translage API is not free, that is why we can only offer it on the paid PRO+ version. But the free version contains a "Translate" button that opens the OCR'ed text directly in the free Google Translate website - a very convenient feature. Did you discover it yet? - Rated 3 out of 5by SkyHigh, 4 years agoIt worked GREAT, until recently. It now either says: "Unable to capture screen. Please try again when the page has loaded." or is just doing screenshot of entire page (desktop screenshot in 3 seconds). Firefox 77.0.1 (64-bit)
- Rated 4 out of 5by JWOL, 4 years agoI like it very much as it is a very good addon, but I can't see it because the black icon merges with the background.
It would be nice if you could use the middle gray or switch between white and black so that you can use it. - Rated 5 out of 5by Arnaldo V. Carvalho, 5 years ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by Adam, 5 years agoNo thanks, I don't want to install your bloatware/malware aka Desktop Screenshot XModule for Desktop OCR.
Developer response
posted 4 years agoAs the name suggests, you need this additional module only if you want to get text from your desktop (e. g. from a scanned invoice). If you only use Copyfish in the webbrowser you do *not* need it. Plus, of course, the XModule native app is not malware and bloatware at all. It is a very compact C++ module for taking screenshots. That is all. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15169816, 5 years ago

~ I have also found repeated instances of my quick select languages not working or even being reset to the default of none. (I think what happens is whenever I try to change a copyfish setting, it resets all previously altered settings back to the default).
~ When the quick select buttons ARE there, it doesn't allow me to switch between them while it is translating, and so with the removal of the translation feature, it just keeps trying to translate forever. (It seems that I can switch languages while it's still doing the OCR, but when it starts "translating", the buttons all go grey).
These are obvious and newly introduced problems that I feel negatively impact my experience with this add on.
Edit: Unfortunately, uninstalling and re-installing copyfish did not fix any of the issues I have been experiencing, though I understand and sympathize with your provided rational about why you removed the translate feature.Developer response
posted 5 years ago"Always translate issue" => Please reinstall Copyfish. That should fix this issue. If not, please contact us at team @ ocr.space.
The translation feature had to be moved to the PRO+ plan, because the translation API provider raised the prices dramatically - so we can no longer afford to offer it for free. - Rated 1 out of 5by Chris Currier, 5 years agoUsed to work fine...no longer. Worked great as a simple OCR, but not the current version. Tries to always translate and never finishes. Will look for a simple OCR add-on, now that this is no longer available.

It does not need any 3rd party software, only an extension in Firefox. Thank you and 5 stars.
Developer response
posted 5 years agoThe new permissions are needed so that Copyfish can communicate with the UI.Vision XModule, which it uses for taking desktop screenshots, for the new desktop OCR feature. Of course, you only need to install the UI.Vision XModule if you want to OCR outside of the web browser, on the desktop. Typcial use case for this are grabbing text from desktop apps, popup dialogs, images, invoices, PDF,...).
