NOTICE (14 November 2024): This add-on has been discontinued.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After careful consideration I have decided to discontinue this add-on.
The latest version will disable the code altogether, meaning that this add-on no longer does anything, I therefore recommend to uninstall this add-on.
Explanation of why I discontinued this add-on
The constant changes in the DuckDuckGo UI forced me to constantly make changes to keep the add-on working. And I'm talking many patches which slowly ate away at my motivation to keep up.
Today yet another bug appeared for this add-on due to DuckDuckGo making changes, but not only did it break the add-on which I (and hopefully you) can live with once in a while, it made the add-on break the DuckDuckGo search functionality completely.
(Please note that this change is actually a security-improvement on their side, kudos for them for implementing this improvement. I still love DuckDuckGo!)
So now this add-on caused far bigger problems that it solved for over 1400 people.
I therefore had to make the difficult choice to discontinue this add-on as my motivation to maintain this add-on is now on such a low point that I do no longer enjoy putting more time on it, especially with my focus on other far bigger projects I am currently working on.
I understand that you might be disappointed with my decision, but I would like to thank you all for installing this little took that I created a long time ago just so I could be a bit lazier myself.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
OLD DESCRIPTION
DuckDuckGoogle?
It adds a 'Google it' button on the DuckDuckGo.com search engine result pages. Pressing this button opens a new tab with a Google search for your searched query. See the screenshot for an example.
Why would I need this?
Personal preference.
While DuckDuckGo is an amazing search engine that I recommend to everyone, sometimes it does not find what I'm looking for. Manually copy/pasting my search queries into Google wasn't really efficient so I replaced it with a single mouse-click.
Does it do anything else?
It also adds the 'noopener', 'nofollow' and 'noreferrer' attributes to the hyperlink so that Google at least won't know where you came from.
Where can I find the source code?
I will be adding a GitHub repository link in the near future, but for now you can simply right-click the install button and save the .XPI file which is actually a ZIP-file. Unzip it, and you have the source!
Manually unpacking the .XPI file is actually "safer" when you want to review plugins source code as a link to source code on another website does not guarantee that that code will be in the plugin you are installing.
