- Rated 1 out of 5by Chaanakya, 5 years agoThis VPN is not really free. It's a hidden trial. It was good initially and connected well to multiple countries. I was okay with it annoying me every day for a review which I obliged early on. So the 5-star reviews are from folks early in this cycle before it finally stops working completely. Any server you choose to connect it says something like “Your ISP is blocking it”. But I can connect to many other VPNs with the same ISP.
So it's just a trial and it starts asking you to upgrade to premium or it won't work at all. I would upgrade for a small fee, but then it has an “All logs saved for ever” policy! It could be such a wonderful tool with a more transparent approach - like say put a GB limit for the free user like most other browser based VPNs. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14396031, 5 years agoThis addon is a fake addon, it always says "there are no servers available" and encourages you to buy a paid service which will "fix" the problem. Plus, most of their 5 star reviews are fakes and they resell your data.
Now they will post a bunch of fake 5 star reviews to push my review down.Developer response

- Rated 1 out of 5by HonestReviews, 5 years ago10-2-22: now forcing users to payup else you will get ONE free ip or none at all. No longer free.
9-2-22: now requires a real email address to register-we want to know WHO you are and WHERE you are. Same with it's fake sister setupvpn. bye bye, not gonna give you a real email address.
8-1-22: reduced to one star: only 3, yes only 3 free proxies. What a joke.
update 12-11-21: This applies to all the free vpn addons also. Frequent disconnects for no obvious reason. hoxx servers are getting increasingly slow. No residential proxies available so sites that block by proxy are not fully accessible and mostly won't pass captcha tests. There are not really good free vpns, period. They all suck.
UPDATE 9-29-21: STILL DOES NOT WORK ON FFOX LATEST. STALLS WILL NOT CONNECT
UPDATE 7-14-21: STILL NOT WORKING ON FFOX 89+
Update 6-23-21: Tried to install it on new Firefox. Waste of time. Accepts your login than cannot connect to ANY of it's proxies. Then you cannot REMOVE this piece of shit. You can only disable it, but an entry remains in your extensions. BAD MOZILLA they don't monitor the extensions. This vpn has gotten worse in the last few months. And CONTINUES to have problems d/c you from proxy for NO REASON other than their proxies are FLAKY as is their VPN.
Really NONE of these free proxies are any good, they all pretty much suck. Windscribe has VERY few free locations and bad UI. TouchVPN has terrible privacy policies and very few foreign country proxies. You get what you pay for and even when you pay you get shit-nature of the internet. Degraded to one star for wasting my time.
Update: 6-10-21: Still has proxies that drop connections for no reason, probably outing your home ip in the process. No data limits is a lie, they do limit your data daily consumption. Last time I checked, bad privacy protections and they threaten to turn you in for any illegal activity-I'm guess THEY are the ones judging if it's legal or not?
Be sure to use a webrtc block and block settings in FFox for webrtc outing or you're ip will be exposed rendering the vpn useless for cloaking your ip. Better than most addon vpns in that it's fairly quick, has a good selection of free proxies and fairly good user interface. However it dropped support for residential proxy IPs which is a big LETDOWN.
update: 3-27-21: Better last couple months but still problem with random disconnects which probably reveal your home ip, defeating the entire reason for using a proxy. Rest of the interface is pretty good and servers are pretty fast. be careful with webrtc revealing your IP, doesn't always work. Be sure to check webrtc b4 assuming ur ip is not visible. This is WITH there webrtc extesion and others. FFox not as bad as chrome but firefox does not always render the webpage correctly. If HOXX could fix the randome disconnects it would be the best free VPN out there but I guess they cannot.
update: 12-17-20: Still too many random disconnects. I am guessing this vpn is rather useless for protecting your home IP since it does not say it has a feature to stop that from being transmitted when one of their servers decides to crap out on you. Still probably the best "free" vpn out there thou. But if a vpn cannot protect your home ip what good is it really?
update 12-2-20: had to switch to competitor vpn as hoxx proxies too unstable and often cannot connect. still no addition to hide your home ip if their servers disconnect. Not sure vpn does any good if you start your browser , your home ip is revealed and then u go to hoxx server-they still have ur home ip, so what good is the vpn then?
Also note will stop making ffox reviews-toohard to sign on. constant unexpected errors means we at firefox don't know what the hell we are doing.
critical update 11-18-20 addendum. Appears my wifi connection was hacked probably for that crap wifi Globe.com (worst isp filled iwth hackers) VPN providers need to do more to secure their connections against hackers.
Critical update 11-18-20-no longer safe to use. deleted account and cannot make new account. flaky as hell. Looking for alternative now. Also read their privacy policy they report to LEO any illegal activities which is up to them to define.
Update critical 11-8-20. As far as I know hoxx does not have a kill switch such that when it is disconnected even briefly your home Ip is likely to be sent. This makes a vpn worthless, same as no vpn.
Also issues with webrtc outing your IP. They have an addon for that but many reports is it's not reliable. Other than that and it's terrible-we will report you-privacy policy has the potential to be the best vpn online. Fast, plenty of servers, but frequent disconnects. Incompatible with recommended One tab which will disconnect the vpn every time it loads its page.
Update: 11-5-20 This would be a VERY good VPN IF they do the following:
Install a kill switch that would block you home ip from leaking if you are disconnected from the vpn. Too many disconnects and if your Home Ip is leaked that defeats the whole purpose of the vpn.
Their servers are quick and fast, no problem connecting-the problem is with disconnects not initiated by the user. Also get some Philppine servers-very hard to find in free vpn. If Hoxx had residential proxies unidentifiable as proxies, it would be the ONLY free proxy to have this. Proxies are worthless for sites that want to block you if they can determine you are using a proxy, easy to deny you access. All in all a good proxy except for it's saying it will report you to authorities and will watch you for illegal behavior-that's not the purpose of a proxy, they are not the police.
Update 10-23-20: Connection holding ability has improved since my last update of about a month ago. Their servers are quite fast at connecting and data transfer is quite fast especially for free service. Hoxx is incompatible with Mozilla One Tab Extension. Every time one tab loads the hoxx vpn server connection is broken. Good selection of servers for many countries, including USA.
I still object to their lax privacy policies. I doubt it will effect me since I am not doing anything illegal.
Their connection has improved and faster. But they still have problems with disconnects and conflicts with other addons. For example when one tab opens it's page Hoxx d/c the vpn connection. Other things cause it to disconnect which can result in outing your IP.
They have a webrtc blocker which I installed but I don't know if it's working or not. Have to test that.
They are very good at not making jump through a bunch of hoops to use the vpn. But their reminders to get a paid account are a little annoying.
Except for their lax privacy policy I would rate them in the top 5 for free vpns. Reasonably fast connections. Good choice of countries, but alas lacks what most all free and many paid vpns lack: residential proxies incapable of being blocked cuz they are not detected as proxies.
Hoxx vpn keeps asking me to review it, so here goes. PITA to signup to FF reviews almost quit. It's a lame VPN. Why? Their TOS says they can log you and violate ur privacy by reporting u for any illegalities, which, of course, they decide what is illegal. VPN d/c without warning leaving your IP exposed. Hard to connect you need a flawless fast internet connection to connect. Another lame "free" VPN-they make their money by mining your data and violating your privacy.
