by Wirewox, 4 years agoGreat job on the many options! Could you please, please add the ability to assign a direct keyboard shortcut to creating the shortcut? (Settings can be accessed through the last item on the cogwheel menu for the addons page in Firefox.) Many thanks!

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14211804, a year agoused to work great, now it doesn't work at all. what's an illegal character nowadays in URLs?? developer is MIA. i moved back to quickcut.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14889613, 2 years agoI can't get this to work. I'm on Windows, latest Firefox. Everytime I right-click and select "Create .url link", I get the error message "Filename must not contain illegal characters". Config options were vanilla (unchanged from defaults). For good measure, I clicked "Reset options", still not working. I experimented with any config option that looked like it might fix it, but no luck. The page URLs I was experimenting with were simple, such as https://www.virtualcreations.com.au

- Rated 5 out of 5by R.Review, 3 years agoI've been using it well for 3 years.
It no longer works in the latest version 2023.
Eventually, the end is the "-no-delevate'" command. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 16128308, 4 years agoI had to read the reviews to find out how to use this extension. I thought it modified the drag-and-drop URL to the desktop action, but instead you do a right-click on the page itself. I needed this extension because the default file type on the Mac is .webloc but these files are not portable.

- Rated 5 out of 5by dbague, 5 years agoThis is even better than the non-conform extension desktcut.
i am surprised to see this extension:
practical, flexible and no hype in the wrapping .
i feel lucky to have found this, many pages down the most users results, with no search term. - Rated 4 out of 5by kim_uk1, 5 years agoAmazing app with tonnes of features/tweaks. Exactly what I've been searching for since the loss of Deskcut!
Just one question.. is thre any chance of an option to save direct to desktop or a directory of choice rather than just to the download folder (&optional sub dir)Developer response
posted 5 years agoWith the new WebExtensions API, extensions can not write outside the download folder (unless the user uses the file picker). I think it's the same with other browsers. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15028502, 5 years ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14585475, 6 years agoYou still have to go through about five steps to create a simple desktop shortcut, and even then you have to "approve" opening it every time. Am I missing something? Where is the simple part? And the options are just baffling, no help at all. Either truly make it simple or better explain how to do it.
BTW, you could always just drag the URL to the desktop to create a shortcut. Now that is simple! - Rated 5 out of 5by Chris Austen, 6 years agoThis is excellent!....I used to use "save link as file" but after the quantum changeover it no longer worked....I have tried virtually every similar add-on but none of them worked like the old one....This add-on works simple and direct, just right click on any blank part of a web page and it will put a link to that page on your desk top (or default location) - or - right click on a link on a page and it will create a desktop link to that link....AND....contrary to other comments here, YES, it does open the "save as" dialog - just make sure you check the box that says "use the file picker"
Forget all the other add-ons that claim to save links....this one simply works and is the best!
A big thank you to the creator of this add-on....it's a life saver! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14451892, 6 years agoIn my browser (Firefox Quantum on Linux xfce) it does not ask user to choose location and file name. But this is the only thing missing. I tried several tools but this one is the best tool for saving links.
