MS Edge TTS (Text to Speech) by yacine-bens

by ryankhart, 4 months agoI'm so glad that this extension exists. It has 1 out of the 2 features of Microsoft Edge that I find essential for me: access to free, premium-quality AI voices for TTS. The feature still missing from this extension is the ability to select just the first word on the page and have the TTS continue on from there reading the rest of the page aloud.

posted a day agoThank you for sharing your thoughts. I understand your concerns, and I want to reassure you about the privacy and transparency of Mellowtel.
Mellowtel is a privacy-driven, open-source platform that helps developers maintain and improve their services by allowing users to optionally share a small portion of unused internet bandwidth. It is fully disclosed in the installation process, and this feature is opt-in, meaning users must explicitly choose to participate if they wish to support the developer and they can always opt-out or adjust their settings at any time. Importantly, Mellowtel ensures that users remain anonymous, and no personal data is shared.
I understand that the concept of bandwidth sharing can raise questions, and I encourage you to review Mellowtel’s open-source code for complete transparency.
If you have any specific concerns or questions, feel free to reach out, and I’ll be happy to help clarify further. - Rated 1 out of 5by gaeaf, 17 days agoUses AI to monitor viewed data for the purpose of monetizing the add-on, but does not disclose this until after installation. Abhorrent behavior from the perspective of privacy. Reported.

posted a day agoThank you for your feedback! I understand your concerns about privacy, and I want to clarify how the integration with Mellowtel works.
Mellowtel is an open-source project designed with privacy in mind. It allows users to opt-in to support developers by sharing a small fraction of unused internet bandwidth. This helps fund the development of free, open-source tools like this extension. However, it's important to note that this feature is opt-in, not opt-out, meaning users must actively choose to share their bandwidth to support the project. It is also fully disclosed in the installation disclaimer, ensuring full transparency.
Additionally, Mellowtel respects user privacy—your personal data remains anonymous, and no browsing activity or personal information is collected. If you ever feel uncomfortable with this feature, you can easily disable it at any time in the settings.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance with settings. I genuinely value your feedback as I continue to improve the extension. - Rated 5 out of 5by ff user, a month ago

- Rated 3 out of 5by Azarilh, 4 months agoProblem 1: Doesn't detect text automatically. You have to manually copy paste.
Problem 2: It runs from the addon's popup, clicking elsewhere will close the popup and stop the audio, which is a deal breaker.
However, it sounds beautiful. I couldn't care less about dark mode, fix the problem 2, please. - Rated 3 out of 5by kouu, 5 months agoWould it be possible to make the app not close whenever i click out of mozilla?

- Rated 5 out of 5by JCD, 6 months agoIt's a great add-on. The only thing that bothers me is that it always opens the main window of the app when I try to read text using the right-click menu. However, it's not a big deal. It's the best TTS reader—no logins, no hassles. You just read the text.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Anatolii, 8 months agoLet me start from nice things. It works and sounds good.
But everything other, I mean the way you are working with this plugin, is so frustrating.
There is no way to read whole site or selected text. You need to copy/paste.
It stops working when you are closing extension window, so you can't use browser during text reading.
Manual language selection is also minus of this plugin, but understandable.
Unfortunately, it's not usable to for me at all ((Developer response
posted 8 months agoHello,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're glad to hear that the extension works and sounds good. But, we're sorry to hear that it doesn't work as you expected it to.
To read content from a webpage you can use the context menu feature instead of manually copy/paste.
The Read Aloud feature is not currently implemented yet, but since you (and others on the Github repo) are requesting this feature we're considering it for future updates.
We appreciate your feedback and we're committed to improving our extension to meet the needs of our users. - Rated 5 out of 5by bbk, 9 months ago
