by rsbrux, 4 years agoThis was an indispensable add-on for me until today (16 Sept. 2020). Today's update (v 1.36) has broken OneTab completely. I can no longer save tabs, nor can I get the OneTab page to open. I am using Firefox 80.0.1 running under Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
I was able to revert to v1.29 (which still works) on a Windows PC, but only by first removing and then re-adding OneTab, which resulted in the loss of all of my stored tabs. The instructions at https://www.one-tab.com/firefoxRestore are evidently outdated, as the indicated "simple-storage" folder under Windows 8.1 Pro x64 is empty, regardless of whether Firefox is running.
Having learned from my experience with the Windows PC, I disabled updates on my Ubuntu PC. This appeared at first to have the desired effect. However, when I started Firefox again after rebooting the system, OneTab was missing completely. I haven't found any instructions for recovering lost tabs under Ubuntu.
I have made exports of saved tabs on both machines, but they are a few weeks old. OneTab doesn't appear to have an automatic backup facility, and since it is unclear where its data now resides, I see no way to implement one.
Update: OneTab is working again as of th e new version, 1.39 (see developer response below), so I am upgrading my rating to 4 stars. I especially applaud OneTab's efforts to require the minimum permissions needed, although I would caution users to check the setting for reading tabs in private sessions, which is enabled by default.
The add-in is so useful that I would give it five stars, if:
1. The instructions at https://www.one-tab.com/firefoxRestore were updated. In case anyone is interested, OneTab appears to now store its data in an SQLite db in a folder named "idb" under \storage\default\moz-extension+++1297484c-254f-45f9-a970-69c5c1cc0f50^userContextId=4294967295
2. It would add an automatic backup/export feature. The HTML export/import works very well. How much trouble would it be to automatically store the export file? This could be an option to be done on each update of the list.
Judging by the posts my web search turned up, this isn't the first time a bug has caused OneTab users to lose data. Regardless of the problem's source, I am sure that many users would be glad of some such insurance.

posted 4 years agoHi, sorry about this. We've been working with Mozilla all morning to resolve this. Mozilla have confirmed it was due to a bug in Firefox (related to extension permissions downgrades).
To fix OneTab, just go to “about:addons” in your Firefox address bar, click the ‘cog’ icon in the top right, and click ‘Check for updates’. This will upgrade you to OneTab v1.39, which fixes the issue.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14179340, 5 days agoI am absolutely done with this add-on. It works great, until it doesn't. For the fourth or fifth time now, over the course of the last year or two, I click on one-tab only to discover that all the tabs I have been saving for the past few months--all the organization and labeling--they're all gone. As if I'm starting from scratch again. I'm so frustrated. There has to be a program with this convenience that doesn't screw me over entirely in the end.

- Rated 1 out of 5by LIVE_Dev, 10 days agoI added this extension to move my tabs from Chrome to Firefox. I shared the tabs from a Chrome window in a webpage. I do not see a way to "Restore" the tab list to a window in Firefox without opening each of them individually.

- Rated 1 out of 5by tcbbd, 14 days agoTried this on a fresh profile. Very stupid behaviors:
- Click the OneTab button, it will close all tabs, thus the name OneTab. But I usually just want to stash one or several tabs, not all. To achieve this, I must right click. Very annoying.
- When you open a session, it will load all the tabs at the same time. NO! They should be in dicarded state, and load on demand.
So my conclusion is, I will not use this addon. - Rated 1 out of 5by OzMerry, 14 days agoFor those who have lost tabs, I discovered that selecting Exit from the hamburger menu instead of X (close) avoided loss of tabs. Also, if X is clicked by mistake, I found that restarting my laptop (or possibly just closing Firefox and reopening it, I'm not sure) restored the tabs I had open.
When first opening Firefox, a succession of several sessions, one with only 1 tab and others with a group of tabs, rapidly appear before displaying just one session with the right group of tabs. I'm now going to disable this add-on and stick with Firefox's "open previous windows and tabs" option.
Edit: The behaviour above (2nd paragraph) still happens even after disabling the add-on, both with X (close) and Exit. AND this edit paragraph is missing (despite definitely clicking Update review) if closing with X!! - Rated 5 out of 5by Faith, 19 days agoThis extension is superb on a PC!
Pros:
* Saves tabs for easy access later
* Can import/export tabs for use on another device
* This extension doesn't scrape and sell your data AFIK
Cons:
* Currently on Android Firefox some features such as adding current tab or just one page at a time don't seem to be available, but I know this scenario is probably kind of rare.
* Firefox on Android currently doesn't let OneTab save inactive tabs, so you have to open those tabs to make them active and then save to OneTab
I love the pros enough that I'm ok with the cons and can just work around them. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18817713, 21 days ago
