- Rated 5 out of 5by Stehlampe2020, 2 years agoIt's nice to have such a nice little tracker-blocker.
The only thing that confuses me a little bit is that if I press three times Esc it blurs the page for a few seconds and when I press Esc a fourth time it closes the current tab and opens a new one with startpage.comDeveloper response
posted 2 years agoThanks for trying our extension! That’s actually a privacy feature called Escape Route, which allows you to quickly hide what’s on your screen.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Pixelcode, 2 years agoStartpage Privacy Protection is obviously based on EFF's Privacy Badger and does an okay job, although it's not as mighty as uBlock Origin, for example.
Though, what I find irritating is that the addon apparently injects additional HTML elements into all websites for unknown reason. Edit: As Startpage said, that's for Escape Route or hiding their own promotional messages on startpage.com, which is fine.Developer response
posted 2 years agoThanks for trying our extension! Any HTML you might see is only used for one of two purposes: either to enable the Escape Route feature (Click Esc three times to blur the screen and four times to exit the page you’re on) or for Startpage to determine whether to show or hide promotional messaging about the extension on our homepage. No tracking whatsoever! - Rated 5 out of 5by Derek, 2 years ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by firefrog, 2 years agoThis addon states it doesn't use any keyboard shortcuts. However, as long as it is activated, pressing the Escape button three times will blur my current tab and pressing Escape four times will close the current tab and open a new one to startpage.com. This has broken all my trust in startpage's legitimacy, I'll both uninstall this addon as well as change my start page.
/edit in response to the dev: "up front"? I searched for that "feature" back then, but nobody seemed to know anything about it. After your reply, I searched both the addon's mozilla page as well as your homepage for ANY trace of it. Well, yes, you do mention it in one dedicated article (not on the addon's page, not in the features list, nowhere but this article) that I only saw after asking Google about it. Yes, Google.
Also, why is it not possible to delete this "feature"? Can't be too hard to code that in, can it?Developer response
posted 2 years agoThanks for your feedback. That’s Escape Route, a privacy feature used to quickly exit any page. We’re up front about it in the description and maintain the same high standards we always have. Sorry to see you go. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17483201, 2 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Trisha, 2 years agoBest search browser with privacy protection. DuckDuckGo is biased, so I switched to Startpage and like it a lot. The developer of this app deserves donations! Where can I send a donation?

posted 2 years agoThanks for choosing Startpage, and welcome! Spreading the word about Startpage and online privacy is the best thing you can do to help us grow. That and not blocking the non-intrusive, privacy-respecting ads on our search results pages ;) - Rated 2 out of 5by martineau, 2 years agoThe add-on did not prevent the fingerprinting of my browser when I tested it at https://coveryourtracks.eff.org

posted 2 years agoThanks for trying our extension. Our extension blocks trackers and cookies, and does not affect your actual browser abilities. And for what it’s worth, the same result occurs with Privacy Badger, which is developed by EFF. It’s not in the scope of either extension. Thanks for trying our extension and for caring about privacy! - Rated 5 out of 5by Wo, 3 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by mr-scientific, 3 years agoThis extension is really good, but one feature request. Can you set it so that the search bar uses post instead of get? I typically use the firefox search bar to search for things, so even if the engine tries to use post within itself, the browser's search bar still uses get searches instead of post.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Esthirel, 3 years agoAbsolutley love this extension. It's so clear what it's doing and how to enable and disable certain options. There is no setback when surfing it's only adding pretection and info about your websites.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17267262, 3 years agoBeen a long-time user of Startpage for a long time now, and this extension is awesome! Gives a "privacy score" and keeps reminding me why I use Startpage.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17244388, 3 years agoThis extension is awesome, been using it for a few days now and have blocked hundreds of cookies and trackers, but the Startpage search is the best part as it protects all of my searches
- Rated 5 out of 5by anonymous, 3 years agoThis add-on is very useful to have an anonymous web browsing.
Firefox itself is an anonymous browser, but with this add-on the tracking blocking is perfect! - Rated 5 out of 5by Default, 3 years agoIt is like a complete anti-tracking suite with a zero-clicks configuration. Ideal if you need to quickly set up a browser (for instance for someone else in your family) and you don't want to go through all the tracking domains blocking through filters, privacy settings etc. You just install this and it already gives you a good privacy standard level.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Nyaa, 3 years agoThere are people rating this extension low strictly on the basis that they think you should only use uBlock Origin as an extension. Ignore these reviews, this is a great extension that adds to privacy. This extension does more than what uBlock Origin does, uBlock Origin also has features that this extension does not provide. This is not a uBlock Origin clone, it is it's own extension. It is not meant to replace these extensions and the developers actively encourage you to use it alongside it.
This extension sends the do not track and the GPC signal. This is something that uBlock Origin does not do. It also ranks websites privacy giving it a score from 1-5, also a unique feature.
Stop trying to gatekeep privacy please and encourage adoption of new extensions and privacy tools. Locking ourselves to one single tool, even though it helps against browser fingerprinting, is a recipe for disaster. The problem is *not* the tools, it's the lack of good privacy laws. Extensions that increase privacy are a symptom of bad privacy laws, we shouldn't *have* to use any tool in the first place to have privacy. - Rated 5 out of 5by Umbrado, 3 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by lyle, 3 years agoAfter researching all the different types of privacy protection extensions, Startpage caught my eye. I'm glad I installed it - it's easy to understand with it's clean and minimal look! A definite eye opener to see how much tracking was done on my computer. Also, don't forget to make Startpage your default search engine (Google results but with privacy)!!
