- Rated 4 out of 5by Tim, 5 years agoAdd-on works well. I like using Startpage.com, it's one way to filter a search engine. I put 4 stars because I'd add a way to save settings without a cookie via a web url for preferences on startpage. For example, on the settings page startpage.com offers already. Is there a way to add the weblink feature to this extension? I'd rather run the extension without cookies, if possible; otherwise I'll stick to the bookmarked webaddress I use for Startpage.com

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON PERMISSION REQUEST REMOVAL
Over the last few days, Startpage has received valuable feedback regarding our recent extension update and valid concerns around our request to view browser tabs. We realize that users understandably would prefer not to allow such permissions. As privacy advocates committed to serving our community, the team made it our highest priority to address this issue.
Effective immediately our extension will no longer request access to browser tabs for existing and new users. See version update here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/startpage-privacy-search-engin/versions/
We appreciate all feedback and ask that you continue to openly communicate with us. Please feel free to reach out directly by email at support@startpage.com, by Twitter @StartpageSearch, or on product review sites. We review these daily and look forward to hearing from you.

We appreciate your feedback. It has made an impact and we are actively pursuing other options to grab that URL without needing access to tabs. We’re sorry that we did not do more to alert new extension users beforehand. If you change your mind, you can continue to search in private with Startpage without granting permission to your tab data is by using the extension from our website using the URL below.
Firefox Browser Default Search Engine Settings: https://support.startpage.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/199/0/how-do-i-add-startpagecom-to-firefox-as-a-default-search-engine - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14016988, 5 years agoLove startpage.com, but this last update of the extension all of a sudden requires not just access to its own domain, but also the new "Access browser tabs" permission, which is a major concern for a privacy-oriented company to put out without even mentioning it on the new version notes. Holding a star and holding back my version too.

posted 5 years agoThank you for using Startpage. The request to view tabs is only applicable in the initial install process, in order to pass a marketing page URL from add.startpage.com to confirm a successful installation. However, to enable that feature, we had to request users allow access to the tabs. Once install is complete, we NEVER look at your tabs, so we are actively pursuing other options to grab that URL without needing access to tabs. - Rated 4 out of 5by jackham800, 5 years agoFantastic search engine, really appreciate the ability to get Google-tier results privately and through EU servers. Reviewing the add-on specifically at four stars because of lack of ability to save settings - will change review once this feature becomes available.

- Rated 4 out of 5by cbagwell27, 6 years agoGreat at privacy but doesn't always have as many search results as google will have for the same search. HOWEVER...it ALSO DOESNT CENSOR ANYTHING so you'll find search results on STARTPAGE that you wouldn't on Google as well...mainly things such as conservative news reports, articles about Trump that aren't automatically skewed negatively, pro-life articles, anti-soro exposes, etc. So, all in all I'd say way better than Google search. Can clearly trust this app for a much more balanced or honest search response on ANY topic (liberal or conservative because it censors neither).

- Rated 4 out of 5by theneva, 7 years agoWell it is good but.. I don't like the search much. It isn't as good as google. Sorry, just being honest. I have trouble doing research with it, can't find stuff. So annoying!

- Rated 4 out of 5by Alex Golubev, 7 years agoThis is pretty good considering it provides google search results through a proxy, however you do lose on quite a bit of optimization on layout and presentation that google provides by default, but that may be the price of privacy. The biggest problem I have with this though is that there are no suggestions provided for partial search terms I put into the address (search) bar. That is kind of a deal breaker. On chromium, startpage provides suggestions, so I don't understand why on firefox it has to be different.
