Reviews for Substital

by Illiou, 7 years agoThis add-on seems to be a really good effort. Unfortunately there are a few issues:
1. Most importantly, every time you pause or jump to a different timestamp it takes 5-10 seconds until it displays subtitles again, which is quite a dealbreaker for me.
2. The options menu doesn't stay visible (using Amazon Prime), even with the mouse cursor hovering over it. And somewhat funnily it will only show up again if the cursor leaves it.
3. A significant amount of time when looking for subtitles with the built-in search it will just show an error after loading for a while. I realize that this is possibly due to the external provider, but even then the error handling is suboptimal, since it throws you back to the main menu afterwards, meaning the whole process of searching and choosing a subtitle has to be done over and over again until it works.
Additionally, as I just noticed the timing seems to be off from the file. In my example the first line in the srt file starts at 00:00:19 seconds but after loading it into the add-on it shows the first line at about 00:00:09. Synchronization option is set to 0.
Also, having the option to add outlines and/or shadows to the subtitle display would be beneficial for visibility.

5/5 stars. Would recommend. I don't know that I'll need it again any time soon; but it fills such a niche need that I'd recommend it to anyone. - Rated 5 out of 5by zihad, 3 months ago

There's one detail I noticed while using it: while the video can play perfectly fine and the subtitles are synced and visible, the progress bar doesn't seem to be advancing at all, it gets stuck in the beginning. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18457109, 6 months ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by Rafael Cordeiro, a year agoIt was very good, but since a few weeks ago, it started asking to become a VIP member of opensubtitles, and it wont load any subtitles at all. Devs, can you fix this?
- Rated 4 out of 5by yardsards, a year agoExtremely useful add-on. An absolute life-saver for me as a disabled person. However, the search for subtitles feature no longer works, just asks to become a VIP member of opensubtitles. Perhaps find a different provider to source your subtitles from?
- Rated 5 out of 5by AWAT-IR, a year agothaaaaaanks your add-on is the only way I can host movie nights without having to download each video I want to stream. Thank you so much
- Rated 5 out of 5by vimehemii, a year agoI can't thank you enough. Your add-on has helped me breach the language barrier in my long distance relationship and thanks to you, we can enjoy all kinds of movies together, whether in English, Japanese or any other language. As Japanese-subbed movies and TV shows are incredibly hard to find online, your add-on is the only way I can host movie nights without having to download each video I want to stream. Thank you so much for making my life easier. Lots of love and happy holidays!
- Rated 3 out of 5by Cyber Ceel, a year agoSadly I have to edit my 5 star review because since some time in December, this extension no longer works properly. No matter what subtitles you select, the only subtitle that you get is a subscription demand for some subtitle site.
Very unfortunate, it was working perfectly before.
Update Feb 2024: Substital now works again but is subject to the opensubtitles API limit. Not ideal, but it's something. - Rated 5 out of 5by The Sighing Dutchman, a year agoExcellent add-on!
It does exactly what i need it to do.
I tried another one before this, but that one failed on all fronts.
(+Sub i believe it was called, not sure though)
