- Valutata 1 su 5di Martinus Grovsky, 6 anni fa- Violates my privacy by leaking all my search engines to the opened website when using 'icon grid' mode. They are added to the document and can be read out by the website.
- Violates my privacy by leaking the URL of the website where I use the 'icon grid' to all search engines (via referrer).
Apparently this extension was developed without any privacy in mind.
- The "Multiple tabs search" is not what I expected because it lets me define only a single set of search engines that are used. So you have to use the same engines on each search.Replica dello sviluppatore
pubblicato il 6 anni faHello Martinus,
1) Your privacy concerns have been addressed in version 3.58 released today. URLs should no longer be leaked, but bare in mind that the 'id' and 'title' elements associated with each grid icon depend on the names you choose for your search engines. If you need more privacy, you may want to use numbers instead or words with a meaning. Please let me know if you still see some reason for concern.
2) Feel free to enter a new feature request for multiple sets of 'multi-tab searches' here: https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/issues , although I feel this should be an extension on its own.
Our privacy policy may be found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/contextual-search/privacy/
Thank you for your interesting input.
In the future, I suggest you register a feature request on github, rather than shooting the developer! We have spent a lot of time and effort developing this extension for the pleasure of its users and it's not very encouraging to receive ratings like yours as a reward.

pubblicato il 6 anni faHi! Sorry for the late reply.
At the bottom of the extension's preferences page, you will see a header titled "Add a new search engine". To add a search engine, you need to fill in the line right below that header.
- if the first checkbox is checked then the search engine will appear in the context menu;
- to the right of the above checkbox is a textbox where you need to specify the name you want to give your search engine;
- followed by a keyword which you will be able to use in the address bar (i.e. omnibox). The way this works is that, in the url address bar, you start by typing "cs " (for Context Search) followed by the keyword you chose for the search engine you want to use (e.g. "ddg " for DuckDuckGo) followed by the search terms. So, if I want to search DuckDuckGo for "SpaceX", then I can type "cs ddg SpaceX" in the url address bar and hit enter;
- followed by a another checkbox which specifies if you'd like to use the added search engine to your set of multi-tab searches. What does this mean? Well, when you're using the context search list mode (i.e. not the icon grid), then you may have noticed that there's an item named "Multiple tabs search". When you click on that menu item it will open a new window with multiple tabs, where each tab will contain the search results of a search engine that has been checked using this checkbox. To summarize how to use Multi-tab search: you first check all the checkboxes (in the 4th column) that correspond to the search engines that you want to include to perform multiple searches in one go. Then, you click on the "Save Preferences" button and now you can use the "Multiple tabs search" from the context menu;
- in the last textbox on the line, you enter the search query string for the search engine you'd like to use. Here, you have the option to use %s or {searchTerms} in your search query string when the search terms are not located at the end of the url.
Once you have entered the above information, you can test whether it is valid and working properly by clicking on the "Test Search Engine" button. When you're satisfied, you can finally click on the "Add Search Engine" button.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. - Valutata 5 su 5di Si Fox, 7 anni fa
- Valutata 3 su 5di Rick-0, 7 anni faWorkes very well - even with ampersands, unlike the three-year-old Chrome exension of the same name.
The only problem I have so far is with re-aranging the searches. Up/down arrows are slow, and having to follow that entry and its arrow is a bit inconvenient. Drag-and-drop would make things much easier & faster. - Valutata 4 su 5di goffi80, 7 anni fa
- Valutata 4 su 5di Think More, 7 anni faGreat extension! Thank for Authors! It's perfect if support the Multi-folder classification feature.
- Valutata 4 su 5di Archy, 7 anni faThank you so much for this add on. This is really what i were looking for for a long time...
But there is some issues as one of that has mentioned below;
if you choose "Search engines icon grid mode", right click dissappears for all situations, all pages.
For example i need to use "copy selected links" add on to get download links for stg . with right clicking on that selected text but it is not possible because of Context Search add-on.
On the other hand i did not get what is the purpose of selecting or not selecting search engines in the setting page.
Add-on lists all search engines whether if you check that checkbox or not.
And the last one; this is less relevant problem for a search site; when a selected text-word that contains a "nsbp" space character Context Search sends that text too (for example '''-Google is a search engine-''' in this sentence if i double click on the 'Google' i will be selected this "Google " with a space character) and the search site tries to search that word with a %20 that stands for that space. So if you can add a feature to add on to ignore the latest space character; this problem will automatically be solved.
Thank you so muchReplica dello sviluppatore
pubblicato il 7 anni fa1) We have plans to improve the use of the icon grid mode: we're looking at other ways of launching the grid.
2) After selecting search engines using the left most check box, you have to save your preferences using the "Save preferences" button. Thereafter, the context menu list will only display the search engines that you have checked, and you won't lose any of the other search engines in case you'd like to add them at a later stage. If not, you're always free to remove them. We're trying to give our users maximum flexibility.
3) This has been addressed in the next version which will be released around X-mas time.
Thank you for your review. - Valutata 5 su 5di majolika, 7 anni faGreat extension! Thank for it!
But just one question: why new tabs are open right next to the active one?
It will be a good thing if you could provide an option to choose the place where new tab will be opened: right next to the active tab or after all the tabs in a row.
And one another thing: maybe you can provide an option to switch off the loading of the icons when it's in a list mode.Replica dello sviluppatore
pubblicato il 7 anni fa1) The way it works today was actually implemented following a request of one of our users! Originally, it worked by loading the tab on the far right.
2) We'll be adding an option to switch favicons off for the context menu list in the next release. - Valutata 4 su 5di Demilvx, 7 anni faIt's great, but there's an issue - when the grid layout is enabled, it completely disables right-clicking anywhere else on websites (e.g. on images). When disabled, right-clicking works again. Please improve this.

pubblicato il 7 anni faWe've had many similar requests, so we're going to change the way to launch the icon grid in the next release. Please bare with us! - Valutata 5 su 5di Sean Ryan, 7 anni faVery useful extension - thanks! A few questions:
1) Is there any chance you could automatically trim leading/trailing spaces from the selected text before passing the search terms in the associated URL? When you double-click text, Firefox always includes the trailing space and when that is passed on to the website, the required page is not loaded e.g https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/%s I've noticed that most websites themselves do the trimming, but the one above doesn't hence I'm asking for a helping hand from your extension!
2) I've noticed that whenever the Context Search sub-menu appears there's a short (tiny) delay after the menu text shows before the icons for each entry shows. Is there an opportunity here for a performance improvement in the extension, or is this actually Firefox behaviour?
3) The help text says "Right-clicking on a text area inside a web page without previously selecting some text will highlight the word under the mouse pointer". However, this doesn't happen: I've tried a number of websites and if you haven't selected text, then "Context Search" is not listed on the context menu when you right-click. I'm not hassled by this because I always double-click words, so just thought I'd let you know.
Thanks again for your hard-work - the extension out-of-the-box is great.Replica dello sviluppatore
pubblicato il 7 anni faThank you for using Context Search! I have attempted to answer your questions here: https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/issues/69 - Valutata 5 su 5di Carequinha, 7 anni faHow do I make a seach engine url if the text to be searched is in the middle of the search url? Thanks again!Replica dello sviluppatore
pubblicato il 7 anni faHi. Thanks for your review. You usually can look at the generated URL when you do a manual search. For example, on https://www.urbandictionary.com/ when I type in "fandom", I'm redirected to https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fandom. Drop "fandom" from the URL. The URL that remains can be added in Context Search (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=).
Should you have any further problems, feel free to open an issue at https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/
