The author does not know what "parent folder" means. He thinks it is something online. Wrong. A parent folder is in the hierarchy of bookmarks, for instance,

The parent folder of Galaxy S10 is Samsung and it's parent folder is Phones.
There are no parent folders online. The example shows URLs. Who wants to do that when simply cutting off the last "/" in the address bar does the same thing.

This is not a review for this rather deceptively named add-on. I just want to let anybody interested know that the old Go to/Show Parent Folder functionality is available in the 'Bookmark search plus 2' add-on. It will only work in the sidebar, not the Library, but it's still priceless.

There are no instructions on how to show any particular URL’s parent folder, as was available with Show Parent Folder. Show Parent Folder was very easy to use AND extremely fast. It would not only show the Parent Folder, but the additional Extension, Go Parent Folder, would go to the folder where the Bookmark was stored. If Mozilla is going to be destructive of programs that make their way to users as downloads, it should happen BEFORE the programs are available to users as downloads.

Quantum has been about 20 steps backwards from my perspective in the utility it provides the user. It destroyed virtually ALL valuable Add-Ons, terming them as “Unsupported”. Then why release Quantum when it destroys every Extension that many users found of value? Just look at the other comments to get the list. Where is the communication between Developers and Mozilla? It appears to be non-existent. It’s like many other issues outside of just this one. Communication to the top never takes place, leading to progressively deteriorating results. Further, this complaint should not end here, but be taken by this, and other developers, to Mozilla, even beyond if required.

The Firefox “replacement” for the above named folder organizational tools is Bookmark Manager and Viewer. It also was released before it should have been. It works so slowly that for many it appears it has locked up. It doesn’t cure the problem of duplicates because it reacts like a 1980’s computer program. It does show a tree, helping to remove duplicates.

What is really needed is something like Deduplicator that also allows a choice on what is to be removed. Without choice it is a dangerous program to use, as it also removed what it shouldn’t have. Fortunately when I tried it the FEBE backup program by Chuck Baker was still available. Now that also is termed “Unsupported”.

That makes ALL programs released with Quantum dangerous because there is NO WAY TO RECOVER. Just input “Backup” and see what you come up with as an Add-On for Quantum.

We have no quarrel with Mozilla as to their mission. Our’s is with companies like Google that represent the value Mozilla provides for access to the Internet free of the tendencies to try and control the decision making of users, rather than to investigate what users want without undue control.

Undue control in this instance was the Firefox team’s decision to release Quantum and destroy Add-Ons that many users found valuable. That has the appearance of an identity crisis, as it is the sort of thing one would expect of Google.

I gave this a moderate score but I have never used it. Clicking on stars was necessary to get to the "Write a review" window. It appears to perform the same function as "Navigate Up WE " which works in FF57 and was created by DW-dev, who is a responsive developer and the creator of several apps that I find indispensable. I too would love to see a Go Parent and Show Parent that works in FF57 (i.e. uses WebExtensions).

I thought I was the only one using Go to Parent Folder and Show Parent Folder mentioned in the other review - and these two legacy extensions if they can be forked into a webextension - that would awesome for FF57. I use it daily - search my thousands of bookmarks, right click the search and pick go-to-parent folder so I can see where I stored them in my bookmark folders. invaluable. Hoping you may take on this project of convert them from the original by Alice0775.
