Can you tell what can be fixed/improved so I can make it better for current and future users?

I just removed the annoying "Extension is blablabla" bar and concatenated the footer content for better space utilization and a 3x3 group should now be all visible without scrolling in 1920x1080 screens (zoom 100%). And more work will go into making the UI more compact in the future :). Any other weird stupid bars?

The other annoying bar in the top when you click `Alt` or `Ctrl` is so that you can type the number of the page/thumbnail and it can open in the same or new tab. There's also a hidden option that can make this only work when `Shift` is clicked, if you want to still use it to switch tabs and I use it personally (because I was just as annoyed as you and almost uninstalled the extension). It's the small checkbox in the top left of the newtab page.

I also think of doing something like 1Password extension in the future, where you use a shortcut and a popup would appear and you can enter the number of the page/thumbnail. And no I don't intend to add any adds to the extension :).

I just made some other changes too:
- Fix dragging and dropping images or links has to be exactly on the number or image (now it'll work on the whole thumbnail container/card).
- Add support for dragging links to thumbnails.
- Close the popup when a page/thumbnail is added (it previously just disabled the button).
- Fix default group is too small and has a funny name (name is now `Your Default Group` instead of `:)` and it's now 3x3 instead of 1x1).

And I really like my add-on too so you're in good company :). And please tell me more. I'm open to almost anything but never to a todo-list feature *_^ (I actually saw a speed dial add-on with todo-list feature).

2018-08-28: I also think of using the user top/most used sites in the default initial 3x3 group.
2018-09-08: The default 3x3 group now contain the most visited sites :)

The automatically generated thumbnails are next on my todo list and will do the backup/restore feature too and will make it a priority since you asked for it :).

Just keep in mind that the extensions are now more restricted in modern web browsers. For example, it's almost impossible to have arbitrary number of keyboard shortcuts to work without a page focused (instead of the browser window -_-).

2018-07-20: auto-generated thumbnails are now available and import/export will be next :)

Can you list the main issues. I would like to know more and please make sure you have the latest version and have auto-update for the add-on turned on (it may not work by default because it's still listed as experimental).

And I fixed some major issues/bugs in the last couple of days.

Some of the future plans:
* Add ability to add pages from url bar and context menu
* Change the whole UI
* Add a cursor when using shortcuts to know whether you're typing the first or second digit
* Restrict to only rows/columns groups (to more easily remember group dial numbers).

Note that the shortcuts can only be used if a tab content is focused (a hack can make ~10 shortcuts work). This is a technical limitation with how Firefox changed since quantum and this same hack doesn't work on Google Chrome (this extension works on it too).
