- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18842995, 21 days agoWhen running addon it has this statement as part of privacy policy:
"If you choose not to allow us to collect anonymous data, the FDM extension will be immediately removed from your browser."
This is not present on the privacy policy shared on firefox addon store.
The main issue is deception, but using such underhanded tactics is not great either. They never disclose what data will be collected or anonymized either.
Edit: found this response "We've implemented the recent anonymous data usage notification only to comply with the latest Mozilla’s requirements."
On one hand it is clearly stated that anonymous data is collected, on the other, this response implies that this is only because mozila required this statement. The only conclusion I can reach is that mozila is asking all addons to add this note no mater if they are collecting data or not, which, while possible, is hard to believe.
Edit 2: Some other comments from developers imply that this is to allow downloads (i.e. you need to send URL to server to download, etc). But all this is already called out separately and in great details outside of this mysterious anonymous telemetry. Thus, this is just necessary.Developer response
posted 16 days agoHello! We are very sorry that the consent screen about data transfer have caused so many negative emotions among our users. However, as we've already explained, the FDM extension needs to transfer downloads to the FDM application in order to work. Without this transfer, the extension simply can’t function. Due to the latest Mozilla’s guidelines, this process now requires users to explicitly consent to the data transfer. If you find this requirement unacceptable, you can always uninstall the extension. We appreciate your understanding and hope you will consider this before leaving a lower rating. Thank you. - Rated 1 out of 5by Shane, 24 days agoI'm reviewing the business practice of forcing users to send anonymous data in order to use the add-on. I know they keep saying "but only anonymous data is sent" but that's not the point. User data is just that. User data. Regardless of any anonymization.

It gives you the chance to refuse, but you cannot use the plugin if you refuse.

Thanks!- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 12335118, 4 months agoI've used FDM for decades. Being forced to enable "anonymous" data collection is a true ensh*ttification. I will look for alternatives. 1/5 because I can't give it 0/5. Awful.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Andrew Basson ZA, 7 months agoClick add to fire fox, check , after that it brings up a page where you have to agree to data collection, I decline and presto it does not work, sorry I am reporting this add-on as I find it a horrible business practice to force users to accept data collection policies for a add-on that I intend to use for downloading
Note the add-on does not function if you decline data collectionDeveloper response
posted 6 months agoGreetings! The FDM extension requires permissions to be able to intercept audio and video downloads (some of downloads are cached by the browser and thus it's required to have access to the browser history). If you're referring to other types of data collection, kindly contact the support team using the form found on the official FDM website. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18303476, 8 months ago

Could you please provide us with more details about the problem you're experiencing using the following form: https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/support.htm- Rated 1 out of 5by tassos, 10 months agoThe app doesn't work 40% of the time. I have to disable and re-enable to get it to work, until it breaks again. I emailed the dev, got pre-written responses to start with, and when I pressed them they basically denied me having an issue. Terrible app. I don't use it on torrents anyway because it's problematic, but even downloading images is too much for it apparently. Wouldn't recommend.

Our support team would like to kindly remind you that they're awaiting your response at https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/support.htm regarding the FDM issues you've brought to their attention. The steps they've provided should help exclude any local issues. Thank you for your cooperation! - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18377555, a year agoDoesn't work. It doesn't grab the videos and there are no info and no pictures nor guides to show how to grab files/videos from websites. Even the screenshots they posted don't show anything related to the add-on itself and how it's supposed to work... If you don't wanna do that, at least write a tutorial in the description or something! Not all people are devs or software engineers. So disappointed!
