by Firefox user 14175695, 6 years agoUpdate: I continue to have problems with Norton Password Manager (formerly Norton Identity Safe) causing an error statement in a yellow band at the top of the page of Firefox. I have talked with and messaged Norton tech support, who have been less than helpful, and who have stopped responding to my requests for help.
This has been a problem for me for a couple of years now. I have resorted to disabling the extension and enabling it only when I have a need for one of the functions.
While Symantec does provide a significant suite of products in their Norton Security package (including virus protection, firewall, browser safety, password security, random password creation, VPN service and more), and has a positive image in the industry, the continuing issues with stability and slowing response makes this less desirable.
My original review:
I have been a long-term Norton customer, and have appreciated many of their products. However, I have had nothing but issues with the Norton Identity Safe extension. While it does appear to keep my logon information safe and secure, it slows down Firefox (and other browsers) to a crawl. Attempting to open a tab, or refresh a page, becomes a multiple-minute ordeal, with Firefox noting that Norton Identity Safe has some bad code that is causing the page to slow down (I also received the same error statement about Norton Safe Search). When I disabled both Identity Safe and Safe Search, the lag and delay stopped and Firefox was fast as lightning.
I have made sure I have the most up-to-date versions of all of the above. When the most recent update of Norton Security came through (after the most recent Firefox update), I was hopeful they had fixed the issues. It did work a bit faster at first. But that lasted less than a day, and then it was back to the same old slow response.
My recommendation: Find another, less buggy application to manage your login information.
