- Rated 3 out of 5by Korwin, 5 months agoThe application works. But all sites that correctly recognize the system theme start to be displayed in a light theme when the extension is enabled. Of course, it would be better to analyze the dominant color of the page after it is loaded, and enable or disable the extension for this site. But black and white lists would be enough. However, the extension settings page with the sections "Disable Owl On These Websites", "Use Classic Theme On These Websites" and "Always Enable Owl On These Websites" is not available for editing, and is a static page without interactive elements. Mozilla Firefox 132.0 (64-bit).

But for me, scrolling on e.g. Amazon deteriorates considerably. (Win10, latest FF) - Rated 3 out of 5by ЯромиR, 2 years agoHi tk,
there are plenty of night-mode add-ons, none for PDF dark reading...
Could you build such one, please - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13230400, 7 years agoThe extension works as intended. My only problem is that it seems to disregard my exclusion list every time I open a new browser window, especially on YouTube. I have to disable it entirely for it to stop changing my YouTube page. When I check my list of exclusions, I see YouTube is there, but it still changes the colors.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Nick, 7 years agoThis plugin works so-so. It is quite handy on many sites, but on others it fails miserably. Owl provides an option to self-disable on certain sites. Too bad that it does not comply! Especially if one backtracks onto a owl-disabled page, the experience is horrible: one is forced to re-switch owl off time and again.
In summary: very good & useful idea, but shaky implementation.
Room for improvement! - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13880297, 7 years agoOwl is brilliant at rendering webpages with a dark theme.
I can only give three stars though as I'm experiencing massive slow downs in page loads for sites such as google.co.uk to the point where I nearly went back to Chrome thinking that Firefox Quantum was a bit buggy.
I noticed the slow down after the latest update to Firefox (59.0.1) but I'd also just added the google site to Owls list to darken.
Disabling Owl sped things up again as did removing Google from the list Owl darkens.
So I'm going to try using a mix of Owl and Stylish for making the web shady - Rated 3 out of 5by Smiling Fox, 7 years agoLike user 36c61a, I've also been using Owl for over a year now, and I really like it.
ButI I have the same problem as him/her. Settings are not implemented properly, often Owl will not use classic theme even though it is activated, it still inverts colours on videos on certain sites and the Owl icon in the url bar disappears on some sites (like reddit, youtube, etc.)
This extension always had frequent updates, but in the last months nothing. A new update with some fixes would be great! Best regards - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13769080, 7 years agoIt works but it inverts video in fullscreen mode
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 12495010, 7 years agoNo so bad. Need to do less dark color for background, for instance, a gray, because don't visible a lot of detailes
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13730140, 7 years agoI have been using owl for a few years now. I some fairly severe visual problems, to the point where if I didn't have this extension, I wouldn't be able to consistently use a computer. So I definitely really like this extension, but after upgrading to firefox 58, I have had some problems.
After upgrading to firefox 58, it seems that owl is ignoring the settings for which sites I have enabled the classic theme and for which sites I have disabled owl. Looking at my settings, the settings page for owl in fact indicates that owl is disabled on page "x", but when I go to page "x" owl will not be disabled. Same thing happens for the classic theme settings.
I am not sure why this is happening. Perhaps firefox 58 changed something in the web extensions api?
I really enjoy this extension and would like to see it return to how things were before firefox 58. Please let me know if you need any information from me to help debug this issue. Thank you.
Also, as a side issue, ever since the web extensions version of owl, I no longer have the settings panel, just a button that toggles owl on and off? Was the panel removed?Developer response
posted 7 years agoHi,
Thanks for using Owl for such a long time. I imagine you are one of the first few users when I initially published this extension. The WebExtensions API has certainly brought some changes has caused a few thing to break here and there. First, the Owl panel had to be moved to the URL bar since the new API doesn't allow both drop-down and clickable add-on buttons. I tried to find a way to bring back the old interface but couldn't. As for the settings being ignored issue, does refreshing the webpage help? It is observed that Owl fails in first attempt but works when the page refreshes. I'm currently working to fix this. In case you find any more issues or would like to make more suggestions, please feel free to get in touch at owl@sidhant.io or open an issue on Github (https://github.com/CptFoobar/Owl/issues). - Rated 3 out of 5by Chrissy, 7 years ago

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13401344, 7 years agoGreat color palette, but sometimes has weird functionality and/or doesn't always work. Examples: 1) on Facebook, with Owl enabled, Messenger is not functional (messenger window is hidden, and trying to access it from the list of contacts on the right causes the whole page to scroll down several screen-lengths). 2) very weird: some search terms disable the Owl extension on the Google homepage. Example: any search string with "pdf" returns the normal blazing-white Google search results page.
Summary: good in a pinch, but very buggy. - Rated 3 out of 5by Phil, 7 years agoSlows down rendering. (I'm using Firefox 57 Beta7)
I assume it's the same with 56.Developer response
posted 7 years agoHi,
Thanks for the review. It's strange for Owl to effect rendering by any means since it's supposed to be light and quick. Would it be possible for you to send me a more detailed description of the issue? I'd like to know if there are particular sites where you observe a slow down, your platform (Operation system) and Owl version. This information would help me fix this. You can get in touch via http://sidhant.io/get-in-touch or mail me at dev@sidhant.io. Thanks
