Far too often in batch mode, which is its primary selling point, rather than downloading the file required it instead downloads the html page and worse still then claims its the rar or zip file that was the original target. It reports what was a failure as a success. That it cannot recognise what is a successful download is a fundamental flaw and one that makes it unfit for purpose.
As a result at the end of a batch download you are left with an almighty mess where perhaps 50% or more of the file downloads have failed and there is no easy way to fix it.
Instead you have to sort the files out manually and then manually redo the downloads. SMD gives you no assistance in error management.
The lack of information (eg the links actually used) data export capability (eg a list of the failed links), the ability to change the order of items as viewed (eg you cannot order the items on screen by size etc they are fixed in their original import order), logging features (eg what has failed and what hasn't) etc, all of which, if available, might assist in error rectification, undermine any value this might have.
Instead of saving time, SMD doubles the amount of time needed to achieve the task with treble the frustration, As such its not fit for purpose especially if you have tens or hundreds of downloads to complete in a limited timescale. Its more trouble than its worth and equally does not provide sufficient guidance on how best to use it.
I really wish I'd remembered why I first stopped using this before I tried it again. Its going to take me hours to sort this mess out! - Rated 1 out of 5by hamed, 5 years ago
