- Rated 5 out of 5by Lauri, 4 years agoAfter the latest update I seem to have room for max 13 active search engines in the context menu. Can it be fixed? Excellent add-on!
Edit: I managed to re-add the search engines I wanted, but it didn't work right away. Also after the update all settings and search engines were gone, but luckily I had them in a local file, but after importing only 13 were shown in the menu.
Answer: 14 active out of 17 in total. First the top one wasn't shown. Then I deleted and re-added it, after which the bottom one disappeared from the menu. Then delete and re-add again, and it worked. - Rated 3 out of 5by Kougeru, 4 years agoAugust 24th update deleted ALL my settings. that's fun. 3 stars for being amazing for years tho

posted 4 years agoIf you didn't make a backup of your custom search engines list, you may still be able to do so, but it's a bit of a laborious process. Please view my message to @ghmv here: https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/issues/82 - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15340455, 4 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by sehip, 4 years agoExcellent add-on. One of the first I install. 5*
One question though: Is there any way to send message to it? The reason I ask is I would like to activate search-engine selection from another add-on called Gesturefy, so not using context menu, but gestures.
Something like: { "action": "offer-engines" }
EDIT: Thanks for reply.
FYI: I have also experienced the update issue. Probably one of the reason for it is that addon did not update with FF80 at all, even though I manually called all addons to update. It works almost fine now on my Kubuntu 20.04, as with those instructions on github, except for favicons. Don't give up :-)Developer response
posted 4 years agoHi Sehip, thanks for your review. I'm not sure how Gesturefy works, but have you tried assigning a right-click (or alt + left click) to a gesture. That should display the context menu where you select the search engine you want to use. - Rated 4 out of 5by Polo, 4 years agovery good add on ,just one thing is the icon is very old fashioned ,could you please re design the icon to be more model like material design ? thanks

posted 4 years agoHi polo, thanks for your review. Are you any good at designing icons (we are not!). If you find an icon which you think would be better suited and that we can buy and use, then please share the link with us. We're always open to suggestions! - Rated 5 out of 5by Batu, 4 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by platinum, 4 years agoIn response to your question "After you've imported your custom search engine (after the Firefox update to version 79), does the problem disappear or do you continuously have to re-import your custom search engines after restarting Firefox?"
Yes, the issue is still there everytime I restart Firefox.Developer response
posted 4 years agoStrange! I'm having difficulties trying to reproduce this bug. Would you mind entering an issue over at https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/issues detailing the steps that will allow us to reproduce the bug. Please also include the version of Firefox you're using and your operating system. - Rated 5 out of 5by max221, 4 years agoThis is without a doubt my favorite extension. There isn't a single day that passes when I don't use it. I'm so saddened to learn that it will no longer be supported and removed. Thank you for all your hard work...

posted 4 years agoHi max, many thanks for your encouraging review. Due to the many emails received asking us not to take the extension down, we changed our minds. Occasionally, careless Firefox updates break our extension as is the case with Firefox 79. We're investigating the issue and hope to come with a fix shortly. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 16186248, 4 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Sarkos, 4 years agoIt's a useful add-on, but I have an issue and seemingly no way to report it, since the github repo has disappeared. So here it is: could you please remove all of the console.log calls from the selection.js file?

posted 4 years agoSorry about that! Will take care of it in the next release. Thank you for your review. - Rated 4 out of 5by Andropet, 4 years ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Mithrán, 4 years agoWhile "Search selected text using your preferred search engines" does not necessarily mean the ones added in your browser, it will be understood that way by many users who will be disappointed when they see the actual functionality of the extension.
Sadly, you have to manually set yourself every single search string. If you have many search engines added, it will be a taxing endeavor.
If there was some way to export search engines and this extension could load the exported engines onto itself, then it would be worth using if you have many search engines. Otherwise it's still better to copy the text, paste it into the search bar, and then click the search engine icon in the search bar.Developer response
posted 4 years agoWe've looked into ways that would enable us to import search engines that have already been added to Firefox, but Mozilla's Search API does not allow us to have access to the search query strings. That information stays hidden from developers, so we can't import the built-in search engines into Context Search. We have sought help from Mozilla to allow us to import search query Urls, but they have refused in a very authoritarian way. Thanks for your understanding and rating. It's very encouraging! - Rated 5 out of 5by Maverick, 4 years agoIt is a great plugin but after the new update the settings started to reset. There is a problem in version 3.9.1. Settings are broken when you close Firefox. I installed 3.9.0 again. It works perfectly. I hope this problem will be solved with the new update.

posted 4 years agoThank you for your review. Would you please report the bug over at https://github.com/odebroqueville/contextSearch/issues by specifying exactly what is broken and detailing the steps required to reproduce the bug. That would be most helpful. Thank you in advance. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13336222, 4 years ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by aptharsia, 4 years agoI've been using this add on for years, thank you developers! But adding it recently, my search engines keep resetting when I restart my browser, how do you stop that?

posted 4 years agoThank you for your review and apologies for the belated response. Please give v3.8.5 a try. It should solve your issues. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15291916, 5 years agoIt did not pick up all the search engines from my search box, and automatically included several I didn't want instead.

posted 5 years agoMozilla's Web extension API does not allow for the feature you would like and we have never advertised that the extension offers the possibility to import your search engines from Firefox. Unfortunately, this has to be done manually in the extension's preferences page. Please be fair and reconsider your rating. - Rated 5 out of 5by Chris, 5 years ago
